So I'm 28 weeks pregnant & me and OH decided 10 weeks ago (when we found out we were having a girl that we would def call her Sophia...OH love love loves the name - I did but have since gone off it as I dislike the name Sophia & don't rate the nn Soph - So for me Sophia has gone right down the pan.

OH now won't be budged from Sophia & I'm not helps as I'm unable to come up with a name that I love.

To give you an idea of the type of name we like here's our original girls name list. I like pretty, girly, princessy, but not hugely common names (I realise a lot of the names in this list are very common as is Sophia)

Tahlia
Olivia
Florence
Darcey
Luella
Layla
Velvet
Saffie

Recent ones I have thought of but haven't dared tell OH yet are;
Violet
Aurora
Allegra
Lacey
Arabella

Any thoughts, help or suggestions welcome & understand many of my names will be uttery repulsive to others ;) I'm quite ok with this!

Alicia

Sophia - I like it. But then I also like Sophie. Agree with you on Soph though
Tahlia - Unusual. Qite pretty.
Olivia - Not a massive fan actually. Maybe just because it's everywhere and they all seem to get called Livvy which I don't like at all.
Florence- Lovely. Flora is cute as a nickname too though don't like Flo
Darcey - Quite sweet. My friend's baby is a Darcey and I thought it was a bizarre name but it's grown on me.
Luella - Don't like
Layla - Nice.
Velvet - Really dislike this one
Saffie - Actually, I love this but not sure it's a name on its own. Saffron?
Violet - Quite pretty in a delicate, old fashioned sort of way
Aurora - Don't like it
Allegra - Not a fan. Just makes me think of poor Allegra Versace
Lacey - Kind of sweet but not a name to me (I know it's high up the lists)
Arabella - Really like this.

Sophia, Florence, Saffie and Arabella would be my shortlist from your choices.

For girly names, what about:
Annabelle, Anastasia, Abigail, Bella, Camilla, Elisaveta, Felicity, Isabella, Julianna, Madeleine, Natalia, Rhianna, Samantha, Vanessa.

CandiceMariePratt · 14/08/2011 16:43

I like Violet the best, not keen on Sophie

Bonsoir · 14/08/2011 16:45

Violet is lovely!

Stillchuckingit · 14/08/2011 16:49

I vote for Olivia and Florence

RageAndLove · 14/08/2011 20:14

I like Aurora the most :)
Reminded me of another quite unusual but pretty name but (thank you baby brain) completely forgot what it was

MrsOzz · 14/08/2011 20:39

Sophie - nn Fifi?

Aurora - nn Rory
Saffie could be a nn from Saffron or Safiya (v similar Sophia!!! But a little more quirky and unusual. Hint hint DH)

I also like Darcy and Violet but I do like names with nicknames and so I don't like these as much as they don't lend themselves to good nicknames.

MrsOzz · 14/08/2011 20:41

Oh was also going to add Aurelia (or-RAY-lee-ah) and Aurielle (or-ree-ELLE).

RageAndLove · 14/08/2011 20:59

Ariana was the other name I was thinking of, love that name

wigglesrock · 14/08/2011 21:29

I have a Sofia, one of the reasons we used that spelling was to distance it from Sophie, which I'm not so fussed on, she sometimes gets Fia but her name isn't shortened per se. I have another 2dds, one of which has a name from your original list as well Grin.

InstantAtom · 14/08/2011 22:09

Talia, Olivia, Florence, Violet, Aurora, Arabella - like

Darcey, Luella, Layla, Velvet, Saffie, Lacey, Allegra - don't like

Reb3cca · 15/08/2011 00:12

Thanks for all the input ladies - I never thought it would be so hard to decide on a name - Soo not like naming a pet :P not sure why I thought it would be either tbh!

Think I am really swaying towards Arabella - although I am aware many people think it sounds overly poncy & try hard.

Going to have to show this post to OH and see his reactions .. did have him chanting "Sophia, Sophia, Sophia" down the phone to me tonight, so not so sure how easy of a battle this is going to be. May have to wait until i'm in labour to announce the baby is going to be called whatever the hell I want her to be called :P ha

Lorelai?

MorallyBankrupt · 16/08/2011 21:45

Arabella comes across as pretty try hard to me, it's a bit 'I really wish I'd gone to boarding school and had a pony'.

I love Violet and Olivia.

popcornchicken · 16/08/2011 21:55

lacey is really pretty xx

Reb3cca · 22/08/2011 13:00

I did have a pony :P
