Zara - chavvy or classy

Keep changing my mind and DH loves it.

And I'm kind of keen on 'Faith' as a middle name. But Zara Faith keeps making me think Clothes Shop - Shoe Shop

What do you think?

I quite like it, but not with Faith - you're right, it's too high street as a combination.

InstantAtom · 13/08/2011 22:37

Zara is lovely. I think of Zara Philips, not the relatively new shop. Zara Faith is nice too and again, I didn't think "shops".

LynetteScavo · 13/08/2011 22:38

Zara is lovely (Zara Philips stops it being chavy), but not with Faith.

snice · 13/08/2011 22:39

Zara Hope instead?

manicinsomniac · 13/08/2011 22:40

well there are two in the private prep school where I teach. I think it's classy. And really pretty.

Zara Faith sounds nice but yeah, I kind of agree about the shops!

Zara Faye?
Zara Felicity?
Zara Grace?

moobrain · 13/08/2011 22:47

manic Grace is already taken by DD1 :o

but snice I quite like Hope which is along similar lines

Zara is lovelySmile ...but not with Faith.

Virtue names:

Zara Amity
Zara Clemence
Zara Esperanza
Zara Harmony
Zara Honor
Zara Joy
Zara Patrice
Zara Serenity
Zara Unity

Alexandra or Elizabeth are both fab mn's tooSmile

birdofthenorth · 13/08/2011 23:09

Zara and Hope are both on my list! Zara Hope is lovely Smile

Bandwithering · 13/08/2011 23:26

Neither, it's neutral. I'd say that was part of its appeal for princess anne. Peter is the same style really.

I love Faith. But agree with the others. NOT with Zara!

Zara Lucille
Zara Joy
Zara Juliet
Zara Vivien

Reb3cca · 14/08/2011 11:56

I know a few Zaras and they are all very much chavvy... I also know a newborn names faith who's parents are very chavvy... so for me I wouldn't touch either with a barge pole!

Crosshair · 14/08/2011 13:25

I honestly think it depends on where you're from and your accent. To me its sounds chavvy but when I say it it does, dp doesnt have much of an accent and most names sound classy when he says them. [confused

Sophiesmummie · 14/08/2011 13:44

Why do names on mumsnet always have to be 'labelled' as either "chav" or "posh" Hmm.

Personally I'm not a fan of Zara as it reminds me of the chain of fashion stores. They were founded in 1975 (so not young as an earlier posted suggested) and are still expanding globally. To me it is as well known as GAP, h&m or Next.

Dolcegusto · 14/08/2011 13:56

I have a zara . Definitely not chavvy Grin

SaffronCake · 14/08/2011 15:10

Zara's neutral on the posh/chav front, but does remind people of the clothes shop. If you put Faith with it it's far too ShopaholicBubblehead. Which is sad, because otherwise it'd be a good choice.

Zara Hope?
Zara Liberty?
Zara Constance?

Rhubarbgarden · 14/08/2011 18:08

I like Zara, and I agree it's neutral in terms of obvious class connotations.

PercyFilth · 14/08/2011 20:13

How many syllables in the surname?

moobrain · 14/08/2011 22:30

percy - 1 syllable in our surname. And don't think I'm outing myself by revealing that it is ...... Smith !!! :o

OP posts:
moobrain · 14/08/2011 22:31

But I think we're decided on either Zara Hope or Zara Elizabeth

Thanks for all the input :o

northernruth · 14/08/2011 22:33

Not necessarily chavvy but it is a little bit too aspirational for my tastes. Plus I agree on the clothes shop.

I love Faith tho - and Hope!

InstantAtom · 14/08/2011 22:33

Zara Hope is gorgeous.

Zara Elizabeth nice too although I wonder if you'd get "royal family" comments!

mayanna123 · 15/08/2011 10:55

Zara makes me think of the fashion store. Like calling a child Next or Liberty.

How about Sarah?

Ephiny · 15/08/2011 11:48

I like Zara a lot, wouldn't use myself as it's a bit too close to my own name, but otherwise it'd be on my list!

Didn't know there was a shop called Faith so wouldn't make that connection personally, but agree two clothes/shoe shops in one name sounds a bit odd!

Hope is lovely as a middle name, goes nicely with Zara too.

Ephiny · 15/08/2011 11:49

Alternatively Sara Faith would have a similar sound but avoid the shop issue?

BodyUnknown · 15/08/2011 12:17

Not Zara Elizabeth - the 'a' and 'E' do not run well together. And a bit too royal!

I am not convinced that Zara Hope leans on the classier side of the fence, although I do quite like it.

Zara Vivienne, someone else suggested that, I think it's utterly gorgeous and I like the ZV- initials too.
Zara Juliet is lovely aswell
Zara Simone
Zara Sophia

Sarah is lovely but does seem dated in comparison with Zara. With the right middle name Zara is both cool and classy and the more I write this post the more I wish I'd used it myself :)
