Yes!

DizzyCow63 · 05/08/2011 18:54

No! No! No!

mopsyflopsy · 05/08/2011 19:01

No way. Hector means bully/tormentor and to hector means to bully.

pilates · 05/08/2011 19:02

No

Katietatie123 · 05/08/2011 19:02

usualsuspect · 05/08/2011 19:02

Awful

evamummy · 05/08/2011 19:03

Awful meaning. And what would his nickname be, Heck Hmm.

belgo · 05/08/2011 19:03

Victor is a lot nicer.

rachel234 · 05/08/2011 19:04

Terrible. Meaning and nickname options (Hecky?). Yes, Victor is nice.

roguepixie · 05/08/2011 19:09

No

InstantAtom · 05/08/2011 19:12

Yes

poppydaisy · 05/08/2011 19:21

Hector was the Trojan hero in the Iliad whose body was dragged around the city walls behind the chariot of Achilles. To hector means to bully or torment, especially with a loud voice.

So no, I wouldn't choose it. Also agree about the limited nickname options - Heck or Hecky don't sound nice imo.

noddyholder · 05/08/2011 19:21

yes

IssyStark · 05/08/2011 22:34

Divided opinion on our sofa. It's a no from him and a yes from me.

BibiBelle · 05/08/2011 22:36

I fecking LOVE Hector

and for all these people who bang on about the meaning Rebecca means Heifer, Claudia means lame etc etc etc etc

it's a great name, end of!

Darnsarfupnorf · 05/08/2011 22:45

no no no no no no no!!! and no no no no no to victor too! what happened to normal names? stop with the grandad names!

Nightstar · 06/08/2011 21:31

Hector is a grandad name? Purlease!

I knew a Hector, we called him "What the heck" as a nickname. He was very handsome and sporty.

tammytoby · 06/08/2011 21:41

No, the meaning is terrible. And yes, the meaning of Claudia is also terrible, which is why I would never choose that either.

The verb 'to hector' is used fairly often so, unlike other latin names with unfortunate meanings, it is well known.

But perhaps some people don't mind meanings. That's just my personal feeling about the name.

tammytoby · 06/08/2011 21:41

Now, Victor I love Smile.
