I am thinking of using this name for as yet unborn DD, any thoughts? And any suggestions for an unusual but not weird middle name to go with it please?
Thanks

I really like Karen. Considered it when pg with DC1, but he turned out to be a boy, so not really suitable Grin. Also knew a German Karin (pronounced kar in), which I thought was very pretty also.

HappyAsIAm · 08/08/2011 15:11

It makes me think of Karen in Will and Grace.

pointydog · 08/08/2011 15:21

I like it. Good strong sound.

Bandwithering · 08/08/2011 15:22

Not keen. There are plenty of names I like from my generation but this isn't really one of them.

A1980 · 09/08/2011 21:42

Don't! It's a horrible name. She'll get Kaz too.

LaWeasel · 09/08/2011 21:57

I like Karen too, it's not a my generation name, but it's one of the ones I like from previous ones...

LaWeasel · 09/08/2011 21:57

I just realised my sister had a lovely Korean friend at school called Karin, maybe that's why I like it!

vividgingerchilli · 13/08/2011 14:24

nbee84, Karen Yvonne has a lovely ring to it....it's on my list.

So Karen Yvonne or Karen Louise are the two favourites.

Very much of the era of girls born 1965-75 (in Australia, at least)...

debrs4 · 18/08/2011 22:48

Middle aged and just vile.

nbee84 · 18/08/2011 23:39

Grin 'tis my name and I like it Grin The Yvonne does flow really nicely with Karen and I like the fact that it is not a particularly common name, but not weird either.

usualsuspect · 18/08/2011 23:42

I like it

Mumcentreplus · 18/08/2011 23:45

Tis my name too...I think it's cool...trendsetter!

huffs@ middle aged..bluddy cheek!

Bandwithering · 19/08/2011 09:14

It was cool in about 1960. So around about 2035 it will begin to have a slightly cool vibe for babies.

TheBreadstick · 19/08/2011 15:39

I like it, but then I'm a huge Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan and it just reminds me of their super cool lead singer Karen O ... oooh, you could use the suggestion sleepywombat said and call her Karen Olivia ... Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 19/08/2011 15:47

My inndeiate thought was Karen Carpenter. It's just still a bit dated for me tbh, maybe in another 10-15 years perhaps, but for now - no.

sparkle12mar08 · 19/08/2011 15:47

Immediate, sigh.

VelvetSnow · 19/08/2011 15:47

It's my name, I like it.

Some people call me Kaz
DP calls me Kar or Ka - but I think he's just being lazy :)
I don't dot my i's with big circles, although my writing is quite big.
Oh and I'm 28 - I don't know anyone younger than me called Karen.

Karen - from the Greek word for Pure....or something along those lines.

plinkplonk · 21/08/2011 21:26

Caroline is similar but prettier imo, and I do like Sarah. I also knew a Karin (pronounced Car-in).

tiddlerslate · 21/08/2011 21:50

I'm a Karin and I like it

Not middle aged or vile at all.

Mummypatch · 23/06/2013 22:23

My name too. Danish for Catherine, which is my DM's name. Don't think it's vile debsr4.

Go for it OP! I hated it when other kids with my DD's "unusual" name started school. DS in yr 2 and still unique though.

mynaughtylittlesister · 23/06/2013 22:33

Karen is my name - I have always been led to believe it means "pure".

I do not use it very often, most people call me Kate, but now thinking about it - it is rather nice!

sleepingbeautiful · 23/06/2013 22:34

I like it.
Karen Jane/Jayne
Karen Elizabeth
Karen Leah
Karen Marianne

morganster · 23/06/2013 22:44

I think it has a nice sound about it but does remind me of the seventies.

Lots of girls called Carys about near us. But no Karens. I think it will be different.

I chose a formerly well used name for my dd (mainly because it was the only one of my dh's favourites I could tolerate). But she's the only one in her year which is nice.

GW297 · 23/06/2013 22:55

Dated
