Would like some opinions on Philippa please. Also a bit stuck on a middle name. Would ideally like something quite soft to balance out Philippa.

Had a quick look at the stats and it remaind at number 394 in 2010. My worry is that it is about to explode in popularity due to Ms. Middleton.

We are also considering Clementine. So, Philippa v Clementine?

Have never liked Philippa, seems a little cumbersome to me, don't mind Pippa though ...yes, I do think a certain lady will cause a surge in popularity!

Philippa....will never ever date as a name as I think Clementine will.

Also Clem or Clemmy isn't as pretty as Pip or Pippa IMO.

Philippa Clementine or Clementine Philippa would work well.

Clementine, dislike Philippa, sounds too hard.

I know a philippa Caroline if that helps with the middle name issue.

Clementine's lovely. I think you're right, Philippa's going to explode in popularity (everyone thinking it's unusual), and before you know it it's the new ella/evie/millie etc...

Think a short middle name would work- Rose, Jane, May etc..

Philippa will get very very popular. And yep something short/girly would go esp as if they don't become a pip/pipper they might become a phil/phili
Clementine is okay (just) but Clem/Clemmy is awful

I'm a Philippa so, obviously, I love it but I think it is a name that won't date and it sufficiently unusual enough to ensure it won't ever 'explode'. Pippa in it's own right may as some people don't even realise Pippa is short for Philippa (am known as both so I have experience of people being surprised that Pippa is a nickname).

Met a friend yesterday whose DD is Clementine...they are really finding it very hard to pick another girls name for bump to match Clementine.

Maybe that's just them but i thought I'd share!

The school bully was Clemetine. We had our petty revenge with the nn phlegmy Clemmie and Clammy Clemmie though

It's just one of those names where all the nick names are just perfect for teasing....

Philippa is a lovely, classic name. Pippa is lovely. Clemetine seems to be one of those 'yummy mummy' type names of the moment. I think there will be lots and lots in the next few years.

Plus it's a fruit FGS!

In fact what do you do in the super Market when you want some small oranges?! Can you actually say to your other DC 'Tarquin run and get me some Clementines will you' with a totally straight face?

Apparently Pippa means blow job in one language and wank in another, that coupled with everyone assuming you had 'ripped off' the name would put me off it. Clementine is sweet, maybe not for an adult though?

I think Philippa is a beautiful name. Clementine on the other hand I find fussy and a bit too 'now'.

I prefer Clementine, although she will get utterly sick of people singing the "Oh my darling" song at her all her life. And she might get called Satsuma at school.

Phillippa is my DH's first choice for our girl but I'm not keen. When shortened to Pippa I find it a bit "jolly hockey sticks". It calls to mind the type of girl who grows slightly too tall, has friends called Felicity and Marjorie and looks a bit like a horse. But Ms Middleton might well change all that.

Phillipa is lovely,and it's one of the few names where I love the nickname,Pippa,just as much as the full version.

Clementine is horrid. It's very popular on MN and I can't understand why.

You can imagine a grown up called Phillippa though in a way you can't with Clementine. Its such a girly, babyish name I think. I wouldn't want to be a adult, professional with such a frilly name tbh.

I wanted to use Phillippa BEFORE the wedding! Clementine makes me think of a cartoon dog who used to sing it in a southern drawl. I thnk Phillippa needs a one syllable name to follow. Also agree it's a better adult name.
