DH wants Sonny for DS who is due soon. I like it but I'm not sure about it

Would you raise an eyebrow/snigger at a boy called Sonny?

I call all little girls missy and the boys, boyo.
Sonny is a lovely, happy, name.
It has soft sounds that I like in boys names.
I wouldn't raise an eyebrow or snigger at all.

Does sound like a marmite name, it's certainly polarised opinion. Depends if you are happy with that sort of response, but as you've asked for an opinion on here, I expect you would prefer people to be honest about it.

pjani · 30/07/2011 12:13

I like it. It's chilled out.

serendipity16 · 30/07/2011 12:45

I have a 6yr old Sonny & i love the name.
He's named after a very close friend of mine & he's also his godfather too.
Moved to where i live now & found another little boy called Sonny lived here too.
Not heard many kids with it & it really suits the older sonny & my own sonny very well.
Go for it.
There will always be names people really dislike or will find fault with but others will love it.
It'd be a boring world if we all loved the same name.

Tuppenyrice · 30/07/2011 12:58

It's lovely Smile

muminthemiddle · 30/07/2011 14:06

I don't like it but if you do then use it. if you want a name that most people like then go with Jack or Oliver.

birdofthenorth · 30/07/2011 21:04

Great name!

birdofthenorth · 30/07/2011 22:11

PS just don't make his middle name James... Sonny Jim!

OnEdge · 30/07/2011 22:13

Its totally gorgeous !! My mate has a lovely son called Sonny who she dresses in yellow poor bugger (only 2 ) We reckon he will rebel when he is a teen and become a Goth !

PIMSoclock · 30/07/2011 22:13

Sonny bean was a famous scots man
Unfortunately he was famous for being the head of a family of cannibals!!!

sittinginthesun · 30/07/2011 22:15

Didn't Sophie Ellis bexter call her son Sonny? Cool name.

BibiBelle · 30/07/2011 22:48

Love it Smile also a fan of Saul

winkle2 · 31/07/2011 00:11

Sunny is my 21 year old brothers name and have never heard of any of these comments said to him! It's quite a popular Indian name short for sunil.

TidyDancer · 31/07/2011 16:45

Sunny is the name Flea from Chili Peppers used for his daughter. I think it's lovely on a girl, I'm not at all keen on it for a boy.

I would've loved to name DD Sunny, but I wanted her to have DP's surname and the names don't go.

sparkle12mar08 · 31/07/2011 17:33

Awful, absolutely awful, and resolutely 'chav' (for want of a better word) in my area.

noddyholder · 31/07/2011 17:35

There are a few that I know and I like it. It is quite common here though not sure about elsewhere. What is it with MN and branding names chavvy? Now Dolce and Gabbanna thats chavvy and there were twins at ds playgroup called that! They are 17 yrs old now wonder how it is for them now

lisianthus · 02/08/2011 14:58

Not keen. To me it's like calling him "lad" or "young man" or even "junior", rather than giving him a name of his own. Sorry.

BalloonSlayer · 02/08/2011 15:04

Sonny Corleone was not short for Santino. His name was Santino but he was nicknamed Sonny because he adored his Dad and followed him everywhere.

He had a great big cock.
