Expecting my 1st baby and don't yet know the sex.
I really love the girl's name Anya (or Anja) but fear it is just too close to my own name, Sonya.
What are your thoughts?
Not sure what I'm getting myself into here seeking the opinions of complete strangers so please be gentle!
My current favourite alternative is Leila.

LOVE Anya. I don't think it matters at all that it has the same ending as your name - you'll be 'Mum'!
Anya Seton was the author of a book I loved as a teenager called 'Katherine' and hence I had on my list of girls names to use all my life.
Good luck with choosing and with the baby.

Anya and Sony are both Slavonic names so there is a natural connection. Nobody from Eastern Europe would think it strange to have both these names in a family! Smile Anya is nice.

Anya is lovelySmile It doesn't matter at all that it sounds quite like Sonya.

Thanks everyone! Don't need to scratch it off the shortlist yet then :) x

It does sound as if it's partly derived from your own name. Depends whether that bothers you.
