Joshua or Daniel?

duesoonIhope · 25/07/2011 18:12

So I'm due in a week with DS1. Already have 2 DDs - Isobel and Charlotte. We are down to Joshua or Daniel - middle name probably William (I did like this as a first name, but DH thinks too popular and does not like Willy nicknames!). I also liked Joseph but both my girls have completely vetoed that as they both know Josephs that they really don't like!!

Views please! Which do you prefer? Thanks!

Both names are lovely, but Joshua flows more naturally with William.

LetThereBeRock · 25/07/2011 18:26

I love both,but favour Daniel.

Bandwithering · 25/07/2011 18:30

Daniel. Love Daniel. It's classic but great.
Joshua will date more. It was so popular at one point that it's inevitable that it'll sound really dated.

PaperBank · 25/07/2011 19:01

I like both, but prefer Daniel.

MsChanandlerBong · 25/07/2011 19:13

Both great names. My personal preference is Joshua, but only by a nose! Probably as I know (have known) quite a few Daniels, but have never known a Joshua in rl.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 25/07/2011 19:14

Daniel. Joshua is boring.

LynetteScavo · 25/07/2011 19:15

Both are nice, but very, very popular around here. (Far more popular than William!)

colditz · 25/07/2011 19:15

Not Daniel.

I knew a few Daniels at school - it was the 'naughty name'

ragged · 25/07/2011 19:17

You do know Joshua means Jesus, right?

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2011 19:19

I was going to suggest before I opened this thread that Joshua is the sort of name people use if they use Isobel for a girl and Daniel is the male equivalent of Charlotte and see which was more your kind of thing. Grin

So either/or. They're both popular (as popular as William round here) and just normal, non-offensive names. I'd trust either of them to sell me insurance.

ShowOfHands · 25/07/2011 19:20

And Joshua doesn't mean Jesus. It's merely the same name. Grin Means 'leader of men'.

supadupapupascupa · 25/07/2011 19:22

Daniel definitely. It is a gorgeous name, and if it wasn't for my DH being called Daniel, I would have used it for a son

notnowImreading · 25/07/2011 19:23

Joshua - better song!

superjobee · 25/07/2011 19:26

i love daniel but joshua goes better with william as a middle and your girls names :)

pilates · 25/07/2011 20:27

Joshua and Daniel are nice, but prefer William and Joseph.

LavenderBrown · 26/07/2011 09:12

I like both but prefer Joshua.

Greenwing · 26/07/2011 16:23

Daniel because it is a fine strong attractive name and also because the sound is more different to the girls' names - s in Isobel, ch in Charlotte and sh in Joshua all run together rather IMO.

MelinaM · 26/07/2011 16:27

Daniel is lovelySmile Joshua I've always found rather an effeminate name for a boy, and very 'American' sounding ...Joosshhhhh!

LucyLastik · 26/07/2011 16:30

Daniel every time. Joshua sounds a bit wet to me and there are millions of them around atm. Four Joshua's live in our block of flats...

Oh and my DS is Daniel Wink

youbethemummylion · 26/07/2011 17:14

Daniel over Joshua every time! Joshua is wishy washy and effeminate.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 26/07/2011 19:26

Go Daniel. Classic - and very very cute and cheeky when Danny. Or Dan when teenaged or whatever. Goes each way socially too.

Stars22 · 26/07/2011 21:37

I would go for Daniel as I dont like the name Joshua (like Josh tho) i do think joshua goes better with your girls names and William tho.
