Clemency?

My mum's beloved uncle, who was German, was named Clemens (German form of Clement). I don't for one minute think I could saddle a DS with the name Clemens or Clement, but would love to honour my mum's uncle by using Clemency for a girl. What do you all think? Is this workable? And what about NNs? I'm not sure I like 'Clemmie' very much, but am struggling to think of any others.

Would use Clem as nickname rather than Clemmie (too frilly and like clammy).

Also like Clementine.

I LOVE Clemency, and hope to be able to use it for a DD. I have only known one - at school and she was a cool kid - so I think it's a great name.

The NN is a bit tricky I agree - I'm thinking maybe Clem or Mimi depending on whether she's a little tomboy or quite girly. (Could also use Cece?)

I'm thinking either Clemency Eliza or Genevieve (which were my grandmother's and mother's names). Also recently drawn to Athina as a MN as it's significant to where we live currently.

Clemency tends not to be very well liked on here, but tbh that suits me fine .

Its because of the meaning, to grant someone Clemency, its not exactly a nice meaning for a baby name and I would avoid it for that. On the other hand I adore Clementine, it's just pure class and has exactly the same NN of Clem

It's dreadful,as is Clementine imho.Horrid names that I'm completely unable to understand the appeal of,however as it's a family name I'd use it as a middle name,but certainly not as a first.

Clemency is gorgeous. Much much better than Clementine which is becoming very popular despite the hideous song and fruit connotations.... Cannot understand the appeal! Plus it's very 'now' so I think will date badly.

Clemency is just such a stunning name. I went to uni with one who was beautiful, talented and lovely. It's classic without the twee appeal of Clementine.

Someone mentioned Clemency Eliza which I think is possibly the most beautiful name I've ever heard.

It's okay, not as nice as Clementine, but certainly not terrible, either.
I went to uni with a Clemency-Catriona, she didn't like it and always went by Clemmie, which really suited her.

hmm Clemency is nice but Clemmy is not, unfortunately - too like clammy.

Could use Cici as an alternative nn perhaps, but suspect she would inevitably get called Clemmy.
