I love the Saint Crispin's Day speach from Henry V

But am really put off by the fact he was the patron saint of shoe makers! Not that I have anything against shoe makers but I like a name to mean something and I don't have any real connection with cobblers.

If my husband and I took the patron saint of our professions then the names are Francis and Laurence, sigh...

I'm really clutching at straws now to find something i like with some meaning

I was trying to say if you send him to the local comprehensive school with a name like Crispin, don't be surprised if he gets his head kicked in make sure he is confident in self defense.

DP's friend is a Crispin. Despite going to a top private school and Oxbridge he was still teased for being a posho. And had to put up with being called 'Crispy Duck' etc

Prefer Francis and Lawrence to Crispin.

Crispin is not very popular at all so that gets a thumbs up from me. Although there is a niggling thought in the back of my mind that Crispin was a main character in an 80's cartoon but cannot for the life of me remember which one! Not that that matters, i digress lol!

My Best Friend's BIL is called Crispin. He went to private school and Sandhurst and they still took the piss out of his name. He's either a Major or a Captain now but his 'mates' still take the mickey.

Sorry but I have to agree with others. Really dislike it. Totally associate it to private/boarding school and soppy picked on teenage boys-although clearly successful adults from other posts!

Sorry, this is an awful name. It is so terribly posh that even really posh people would take the mick out of your DS. If you aren't posh, you will be setting him up for a hell of time time (in the fiery, crispy, nasty sense) at school.

Try Hugo if you want something 'naice'.

I know this a few days old but have been on holiday and browsing ... Sorry but Crispin is really, truly awful. Crisp is a terrible nn not to mention 'Crisp Bin!' (pictures packets of Walkers being chucked at adolescent boy...)
It is not only 'posh' but also wet - can image it being lisped as 'Cwispin'.

If you want a name in that vein, but not as bad, Google a variety of public schools and look at names in their sports reports and newsletters (the ones that aren't Russian at least!) Harrow School yields Felix, Tristan, Hugo, Jeremy, Edward, Benedict, Alastair, Philip, John, Christopher, Josh, Patrick and William (as well as the more surprising Kyle, Sheldon and Callum).
