Dh's recent suggestion,is it too masculine??

I can't decide if I like it or not.Would people always hear Alice.

Ellis is too surnamey and yes, rather masculine. Elise is much nicer IMHO.

feedthegoat · 18/07/2011 21:13

I don't like Ellis for a girl.

I really like Elise and Elliott though.

ChrissyHynde · 18/07/2011 21:14

I know both a girl and boy called Ellis. I prefer the name for a girl to me it sounds a little wimpish for a boy.

lilaloves · 18/07/2011 21:53

Yes it does sound a liitle masculine for me too.

Dh not too keen on Elise, will keep thinking.

I know 2 people called Ellis and they are both boys. I think Elise is nice for a girl.

catsareevil · 18/07/2011 22:25

I know a girl called Ellis. I wouldnt use it for a boy.

acsec · 18/07/2011 22:28

I know a boy Ellis and a girl Ellis.

I love the name Elise for a girl

mathanxiety · 18/07/2011 22:40

I think it's far nicer for a girl than a boy. Not too masculine -- actually a bit more feminine imo.

I know two girls named Emerson (shortened to Em and Emmie) and I think Ellis will become more and more a girl's name as it can be shortened to Ellie/Ella -- don't know if that's off-putting to you or your DH. There are thousands and thousands of Ellies and Ellas.

lilaloves · 19/07/2011 09:38

After much discussion last night Ellis morphed into Elise, then Alix then Alexa...

Is Elise still best choice?

OP posts:
PaperBank · 19/07/2011 10:22

Alix is OK although I'd spell it Alex. Prefer Elise, but the best choice? Can't say - it's what's best for you.

Eloise, Eliza, Alyssa, Elsa, Alicia, Lucy, Louisa, Louise?

FairyArmadillo · 19/07/2011 10:28

I know two little boys named Ellis. Love Alexa. If I ever had a DD this Alexa be on my shortlist.

CherryDrops · 19/07/2011 12:53

Alexa's my favourite without doubt. Not keen on Ellis, Elise is slightly better and Alix is awful (but Alex is nice).

mathanxiety · 19/07/2011 16:02

I love Alix. Elise is very nice though.

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/07/2011 16:05

No, don't like it at all, sorry.

Elise is lovely. And I like Eliza too.

callow · 19/07/2011 16:06

Also could be Ellice or Elice.

elliephant · 19/07/2011 16:07

How about Eilis or Eilish ? ( eye leash)

HalfPastSeven · 19/07/2011 16:13

I know an adult female Ellis. I think she is Danish. She is very glam and her name suits her perfectly well.

What about Eilidh (Aylie)
Eilish (Eye-lish or Ay-lish)

(not sure I have got either of these spellings correct - think they are irish or Scottish names)

Prefer Eloise to Elise.

Ellen/Elen?

Alice?

Dilys?

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/07/2011 16:15

I know a Dutch Elles, pronounced like Ellis. Would that work?

BibiBelle · 19/07/2011 16:25

I know a female Ellis and she is gorgeous Smile

My DD3 has a name more commonly associated with a boy and she is gorgeous with it - she's really made it work for her

Fimbo · 19/07/2011 16:32

My sil was going to call my niece Ellis but was put off because everyone said it was a boyish name.

I have seen pictures of Bibibelle's dd3 and she really suits her name and is scrumptious with it!

I like Lexie and Elena

figgygal · 19/07/2011 20:06

I like it it's merediths mothers name in greys anatomy and always liked it

BibiBelle · 19/07/2011 23:49

Ah Fimbo thank you Smile

lazylula · 19/07/2011 23:53

The first 2 Ellis' I met were girls, I now know 2 boys withe the name. One of the female ones spelt ir Elys I believe.
