I really like it too. Funy 'cos i'm not religious and don't really relate it to religion.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/07/2011 08:57

Unless you are the church going type, I think its a bit odd.

PaperBank · 17/07/2011 10:02

I like it, although I prefer Christopher.

MardyBra · 17/07/2011 10:06

I think it's wrong to give a child a name with religious connotations. What if he decides to be a Muslim/buddhist/atheist or whatever when he grows up but is stuck with a name which labels him as Christian?

MelinaM · 17/07/2011 11:22

Nice enough but I do prefer Christopher - Kit, or even CrispinSmile Cristoph is also good.

Georgimama · 17/07/2011 11:23

My brother is called Christian and he's an atheist. I'm sure it's because of his name. I really like it though, and he has never expressed any dislike as such of his name (he was a Chris when he was younger but most people call him Christian now).

parisjojo · 17/07/2011 23:25

Love it :) Wanted my boy to be Christian.. but i had a girl :) Maybe next time! :)

emmyloo2 · 18/07/2011 05:49

Love it! I actually raised it with DH as potential name for imaginary DS2. I was watching a movie on a plane and there was a boy in the movie called Christian (it was a Dutch movie) and I thought what a fabulous name. I normally go for the more old-fashioned names (my DS1 is George) but I really like this name.

tummytickler · 18/07/2011 09:58

I immediately think of the religion.
Even if you are Christian, he may convert to Judaism/Islam/whatever.
How about Christopher?

Cattleprod · 18/07/2011 10:17

I like Kit as a nickname, but Christian just seems a bit, erm, worthy, like the girls names Patience, Faith, Chastity etc.

NattersAndMutters · 18/07/2011 10:42

Christian is a very old-fashioned name, but in the olden days it was more often given to girls.

sirhandel · 19/07/2011 13:37

I like it too. Sounds very European to me and I think translates well to other countries. I wouln't automatically associate it with religion.

NattersAndMutters · 19/07/2011 14:16

No, strangely I don't associate it with religion either .... funny that.

lalabaloo · 19/07/2011 20:07

I love it but was worried about using it in case people thought I was trying to be too Christian, now people don't seem to think it is a problem it might go back on the list for when i'm pregnant

PaperBank · 19/07/2011 21:47

I think most ordinary "churchgoing types" would steer clear of the name for fear of appearing too evangelical.

Roxy25 · 20/07/2011 11:59

I love this name.

Sid · 20/07/2011 12:07

I have one, so naturally I love it. I think it is classy but also modern. It's also big in Europe, which was important with my family background. I am a Christian, but I think it's enough of a name in its own right that even if my son grew up to have other beliefs, it wouldn't matter.
