Hi,

Do you automatically think Superman?

I have Lois on my shortlist for a girl and at the moment it's my favourite, I told DP and he said 'superman'.

Is it just him.?

I would think Superman, sorry! What about Lori or Eloise?

PaperBank · 16/07/2011 20:05

I like it and didn't think "Superman". Also like Louise/Louisa as alternatives.

usualsuspect · 16/07/2011 20:07

I like it

and wouldn't think superman

Phoenix · 16/07/2011 20:07

I maybe used to think Superman but ds1 went to pre school with a Lois so now I think of her :)

woowa · 16/07/2011 20:13

Love Lois

crazynanna · 16/07/2011 20:16

I have a Lois (DD2). And I do have to use the 'Superman' link quite a lot,as she gets called 'Louise',or usually 'Louis' when they see it in written form,eg,at the GP/dentist. I then have to say "Lois...it's Lois...as in Superman!"

crazynanna · 16/07/2011 20:18

Just to add,we don't actually call her 'Lois' in the family/friends,we call her 'Lolly' Grin

BibiBelle · 16/07/2011 20:46

I love Lois and we wanted to use it for DD2 HOWEVER seeing as I already have a superhero girlfriend name (my own not one of DCs) we decided against it!

Nicplus1and1baking · 16/07/2011 21:14

Lois was a top contender of ours for quite a long time and the superman link didnt bother me at all, people would soon associate Lois with your new baby, the only thing that put me off was that people didntsay it correctly and t ended up soundin like lewis and it buged me lol

I love it. I would thnk Superman, but does that matter really. You can associate most names with a film or programme if you think hard enough.

NattersAndMutters · 17/07/2011 16:12

It's not American, there is a Lois in the Bible.

I would actually see the Superman reference as a benefit. As Lois is not a very common name, it'd be useful to be able to say "as in Superman" whenever someone hesitated over the pronunciation or spelling.

LittleDonkin · 17/07/2011 20:59

Lois is the name I have ready if I have another DD. I bet ya I've jinxed myself now and will have boys!!!

otchayaniye · 18/07/2011 07:30

Lois is my mother's name and I've never thought 'Superman'.

It's my daughter (Carmen's) middle name.

otchayaniye · 18/07/2011 07:31

I must say my mother (in her mid-fifties) has never ever had a pronounciation issue, or a spelling issue or has been told about the Superman link. If that's what worries you.
