Why are there no bird names?

There are flower names (Rose, Heather) and herb names (Basil, Rosemary) and nature names (River, Skye) and animal names (Wolf, Bear) but no bird names. Except Robin.

Our extended family has (by coincidence, honest) both a Martin and a Robin. Suggestions were made that we should call the kids Peregrine and Mavis (which does mean thrush btw) to be in keeping with the theme.

Scott of the Antarctic was Robert Falcon Scott. Quite funny that his son Peter became the a leader of bird (and other) conservation.
