There are flower names (Rose, Heather) and herb names (Basil, Rosemary) and nature names (River, Skye) and animal names (Wolf, Bear) but no bird names. Except Robin.

I like Wren, or maybe Finch.

As a middle name.

I wouldn't like something like bald eagle though Grin

Lancelottie · 15/07/2011 16:08

Hah!
Our extended family has (by coincidence, honest) both a Martin and a Robin. Suggestions were made that we should call the kids Peregrine and Mavis (which does mean thrush btw) to be in keeping with the theme.

BlueChampagne · 15/07/2011 16:09

Hawk for a boy?

Lancelottie · 15/07/2011 16:09

Just realised we know a Starling, too!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 15/07/2011 16:12

What about albatross, shagg or gannet?! It seems odd at first thought that there are so few bird related names, but then when you think about it, maybe not!!!

allhailtheaubergine · 15/07/2011 16:31

I thought Paloma was a horse.

ShoutyHamster · 15/07/2011 18:13

There is Linnet - in Welsh, Llinos (which is quite popular)

MumblingRagDoll · 15/07/2011 18:21

Ooh I like both Linnet and Llinos! I thought of Linnet when I was pregnant but DH wouldn't have it.

mumzy · 15/07/2011 19:15

wasn't that boy whose mad parents told everyone he had taken off in a hot air balloon by himself called FALCON!

GrimmaTheNome · 15/07/2011 19:19

Scott of the Antarctic was Robert Falcon Scott. Quite funny that his son Peter became the a leader of bird (and other) conservation.

ImpyCelyn · 15/07/2011 19:25

Gavin means falcon. And Gawain.

PaperBank · 15/07/2011 19:36

Paloma means "dove", allhailtheaubergine.

Are you thinking of Palamino horses?

GrimmaTheNome · 15/07/2011 19:37

I bet we could nominate a name or two that should mean 'Great Tit'.Grin

ImpyCelyn · 15/07/2011 19:44

The tit family are Paridae, so how about Parida?

Parida May/Mae
Parida Grace

They'd fit right in.
