If ever we want to take the p* out of somebody posh, we call him Rupert - said in a silly voice and with a dodgy 'r'. Sorry, but if I was going to meet a Rupert, I would expect him to be upper class, public school educated and a bit like Harry Enfield's Tim-nice-but-dim character.

threecurrantbuns · 15/07/2011 18:12

Maybe it would put him off joining kid military, would please mum Wink

Unfortunately there are so many terms related to names. Which makes it difficult to choose. Although I didn't know the Rupert one, but would prob mean my dad wouldn't like the name much being as he was in the military for many years saying that he want fond of it.

Maybe I need to go back to the saying board

To throw another into the mix when I was pregnant with dcs 2 and 3 we liked Ernest for a boy Ernie for short. Was my great grandfather's name. Didn't go down well with family when mentioned but still hot something about it I think?

Definitely Rupert, lovely name.

ensure · 16/07/2011 09:22

Austin.

mopsyflopsy · 16/07/2011 09:47

Love Rupert. Much classier than Austin.

threecurrantbuns · 16/07/2011 10:19

Im really loving Rupert ...i think lol! think it goes well with our other dcs names.

Shame about the whole Rupert Murdoch stuff going on but cant not use it based on that?

Now for a middle name to go with it? Surname is one syllable (sp)

I would no way ever call a child Rupert, but thats just my opinion and how i feel about the name. If you love the name then go for it, I think it would go well with the other childrens names.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/07/2011 14:15

Love Rupert. Hate Austin. They have very different connotations imho and Rupert sounds far better with your other dcs' names.

Mrsdp123 · 16/07/2011 14:40

Austin to me sounds v American. I really like Rupert but for some reason I just imagine a small ginger child..like I always imagine Sophias to be dark haired. I like the name though. I also like Rufus as an alternative to Rupert.

threecurrantbuns · 16/07/2011 21:10

Think I'm def going off of AustIn, and like Rupert atm thanks for all the input. Find boys names very difficult

tammy234 · 16/07/2011 21:25

Rupert is lovely and much nicer than Austin. I don't know many little Ruperts either - great choice imo.

threecurrantbuns · 16/07/2011 21:54

I haven't met a little Rupert yet either Smilealthough I hadn't come across a little Hugo until my ds arrived then a few have arrived since

Interesting that people are concerned about Austin Powers but nobody's mentioned Rupert Murdoch in the current climes - MUCH worse!!!

JoleneJoleneJoleneJoleeene · 16/07/2011 22:43

I don't like either.

threecurrantbuns · 17/07/2011 08:58

I did actually mentions Rupert M. A few posts up. It's unlucky that all that is going on atm but it is only one Rupert and as awful as it sounds in time that will be old news. Although hopefully completely sorted out.

Suppose what I'm saying is you could avoid so many names purely because of association

NattersAndMutters · 17/07/2011 16:18

I recently discovered that Murdoch's full name is actually Keith Rupert. Make of it what you will, but it seems an odd combination to me.

threecurrantbuns · 17/07/2011 16:38

Seem like two quite different names to me, suppose the Rupert could be a middle name after a relative but seems strange that he would use it as a first name

Love Rupert; Rupert & Hugo are great together :) (I have a Rufus & they have a similar feel iykwim) ... not at all keen on Austin.

LittleOne76 · 17/07/2011 18:26

I quite like Rupert...! (And you know I like Hugo!)

SandStorm · 17/07/2011 18:34

Rupert M didn't even occur to me - my immediate thought was Rupert Bear. Having said that though, I would far prefer it over Austin but simply because the only Austin I know is a perfectly dreadful person.

ragged · 17/07/2011 18:46

Don't like either, but Austin is more tolerable.
