Woody, Jonty, Hector - boys name help..

This is my first mumsnet post but I seem to spend most of my time hunting through the names list. Most of the names I like seem to be universally greeted with gasps so whilst I am not asking for them to be liked I wonder if people can offer any names I might not have considered (having read 7 books...) or nicknames/abbreviations I might not have considered for my second child.
I like traditional names but most of our friends children are called Oliver, Charlie, William etc and I don't want something too popular, but I also don't want to go down the "trendy" route and be stuck with a name that becomes very 2011 etc..

Names I like with some concerns:
Edward (but called Woody)
Wilbur/Wilby
Jonty (would it be shortened to Jon which I hate)
Monty
Hector
Rafferty (bit trendy)?
Toby
Boris (we are both blond(e), husband feels we may give birth to Bo-Jo...
Flint (bit odd)?
I really like the name of our first child and don't want to feel that I pick an "ok" name for our second that I end up hating. Thanks...

We have different tastes OP but for what it's worth...

I like Edward, but dislike Woody.
Wilby, Jonty, Monty and Rafferty are all too flouncy for me.
Toby and Hector are OK.
Boris is not to my taste.
Flint is just a bit strange.

James

This is the ultimate boy's name (imo) - classic, says nothing about his age, religion, race or class, is easy to spell and pronounce and just looks nice.

And, 4 pages in, has not been mentioned yet. So not overly used either!

Ralph is a character in the Simpsons...please don't do that to your child.

How about Addison, male or female

This thread is 4 years old.

I think the OP's baby is almost school age by now.

What about Herbie? It's my current fav & the name of my imaginary DS

Out of your list, my top choices are; Woody, Monty with Raffety not far behind. Only names I'm not keen on are; Boris & Flint

We're calling ours Jonty if he's a boy. I don't care what other people think. Plus we don't mind if he shortens it to Jon as that's my partners dads name :)

Of your list, I love Edward, Wilbur and Hector. I think these are all either unlikely to date (Edward)/be crazily popular (Wilbur and Hector)

I think Monty and Jonty will date a bit,and Toby definitely will. I meet sooo many babies called Toby/Tobias at the moment. I predict it whooshing up the charts. (Just look at how many threads seem to include it as a possibility). Definitely an "in" name, like Oscar( also ruined for me by its popularity sadly!).

And if you think Wilbur is a little pretentious, as others may say, you can always call him Will! (Actually I think it's a great name).

Sorry to bang on, I just get rather sick and tired of hearing the same names over and over again in the toddler groups, Isla/Ava/Evie/Toby/Theo are those names for me at the moment!

Good Luck whatever you choose!
