Laurence, personally

funnypeculiar · 10/07/2011 19:54

Laurence - nn Laurie

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/07/2011 19:56

Love Laurence with nn Laurie (dd1 would have been it, had she been ds). Not fond of Elliot.

SilveryMoon · 10/07/2011 19:57

Prefer Elliot

PaperBank · 10/07/2011 20:07

Lawrence (with a w) although I do like Elliot as well.

hulabula · 10/07/2011 20:31

For a boy or girl?

For a boy, Elliot.
For a girl, Laurence.

luvviemum · 10/07/2011 20:35

sorry, I mean for a boy

Love Laurence/ Laurie.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 10/07/2011 20:40

Elliot.

Because DS3 is Laurence (Laurie) and I don't want it getting popular Grin.

sharbie · 10/07/2011 20:41

lawrence

BigusBumus · 10/07/2011 20:47

Laurence and Laurie are far more "upmarket" than Elliot, if that might be important to you.

DialMforMummy · 10/07/2011 21:24

Either, love both but only if it's Lawrence.

sonniebonnie · 10/07/2011 21:55

Laurence is a girls name, the girls version of Laurent. Just like Florence is the female version of Florent. Laurie is also too close to Laura imo.

I quite like Elliot, although am not keen on the nicknames Elli, Ell.

WaitingForBabyD · 11/07/2011 09:46

Elliot. My DH and I have it high on our list if dc1 is a boy. Loved the Elliot in ET!

rachel1970 · 11/07/2011 10:44

Elliot for me to. I know a female Laurence so to me it's a girls name.

jcgo · 11/07/2011 11:49

Elliot! Was on my shortlist until very recently.

EightiesChick · 11/07/2011 11:56

Laurence does get used for men though - e.g. Laurie Lee (wrote Cider with Rosie) or Laurence Olivier.

I like both but prefer Elliot.

EightiesChick · 11/07/2011 11:56

I actually don't know of any female Laurences.

Aphria · 12/07/2011 13:40

Elliot for me, don't like Laurence.
Would only ever thought have Laurence as a male name but the rationale for being female makes sense.

hulabula · 12/07/2011 14:30

Not keen on either but Elliot if I had to choose one. I too know a female Laurence but have it heard as a boys name (only in the UK).
