It's nice. Unusual, but in a good way, and elegant. It makes me think of Bergman and, er, Tarrant.

MugglesandLuna · 08/07/2011 14:44

Tarrant.

PastyKensit · 08/07/2011 14:53

I like.

meditrina · 08/07/2011 14:55

I like it.

I would definitely expect the holder to have a scandewegian background.

neolara · 08/07/2011 14:56

Love it. Nearly two years on and I quite often wish I'd called dd2 that instead of the name we gave her. Only problem is what it would be shortened to.

SloganLogan · 08/07/2011 15:08

Sorry but I don't like it - it's harsh and reminds me of cattle grids. I don't like the "rid" ending of Astrid, Ingrid etc.

NerfHerder · 08/07/2011 15:17

Like it a lot.

MelinaM · 08/07/2011 16:24

A beautiful, classic, elegant name, love itSmile

ShoutyHamster · 08/07/2011 16:57

Very Orcadian. Nice!

hellokitty123 · 08/07/2011 17:55

I like that it is a classic name and not overused. But it does sound a little harsh to my ears.

Rhubarbgarden · 08/07/2011 18:46

We don't have any Scandi connections but dh is Dutch, and in Holland the Scandi names are widely used, so that's my excuse. I really like the names that some consider 'harsh' - to me they are strong and elegant. I love Astrid but dd1 is Audrey, so I don't want to repeat the initial. Nadia and Margot are also possibilities.

I prefer names that don't tend to get shortened, so lack of obvious nicknames is a plus. Tarrant is not a great association though, I hadn't thought of that!

Astrid and Nadia - these two sound gorgeous!

Annunziata · 08/07/2011 19:18

Beautiful names! I love Audrey and Margot together.

razzlebathbone · 08/07/2011 20:19

Ingrid is a beautiful name.

Dreya · 08/07/2011 20:31

I know an Ingrid who is stunning and a lovely person too and I think that's why I like the name. We all call her Ingi which is quite cute.

TillyIpswitch · 09/07/2011 09:22

Lovely name - much more elegant than Astrid. I grew up with an Ingrid and it was never shortened.

She pronounces it In-grid, as opposed to Ing-grid.

hightrees · 09/07/2011 10:03

Tilly - I can't hear the difference between In-grid and Ing-grid (by the latter do you mean more Inge-grid?).
Lovely names all. On a theme, would you consider Maya? Not Nordic, but universal somehow.

birdofthenorth · 09/07/2011 11:20

Fab name!

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2011 17:58

Maya is a bit too 'now' for me; but thanks for the suggestion.

What about Inga?

suzikettles · 09/07/2011 18:05

(I like Ingrid btw, but Inga is a related name with a softer sound.)

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2011 21:39

Hmm, Inga is ok but I prefer Ingrid.
