What do you all think of Leonie for a girls name?
Middle name will be Emma.

I really like this name, DH not keen though - for no particular reason though. Also, Emma a great name. But I am biased..! thumbs up from me!

I like it but have never been sure how to pronounce it! Is it Lee-onn-ee with the emphasis on the first syllable or Lee-own-ee with the emphasis on the middle syllable?

I taught a Leonie (Lee-OH-nee) and she was an 'interesting' child so she puts me off.

Also makes me think leonine (lion-like) which I find masculine.

I know one who pronounces her name LAY-oh-nie with the emphasis on the Lay. I like it.

I love it - think it suits all ages and is a really pretty yet intellegent name.
The Leonie I know pronounces it Lay-oh-nie.

I went to school with one and she wasn't very nice so that puts me off! In terms of pronunciation it was Lay-OH-nee.

I have heard it to rhyme with peony- Leah ne, and I think it's lovely. Heroine of a great georgette Heyer novel!

Its beautiful,its my daughters name! I looked it up before she was born and is french from the 1st world war when it sounded abit continental, it was also used by the local gypsies in the twenties alot from my home town, it was also a flapper name (roaring twenties,charlston} as was my name,penelope, also my daughter is very beautiful,tall and leggy and the name really suits her.

I love it. Strong and feminine, really difficult to find one that's both .

I like it a lot, really beautiful, strong, feminine name. You will get people pronouncing it in various random ways though (but that is the case for many names!).

Leona is also nice.

Well I see it as a shortform of Leonora. To me it sounds ladylike and refined.
