Full version of Effy/Effie?

Hello,

This is my first time on here, despite being nearly 38 weeks pregnant. I have been lurking for quite a while though. DH and I are still deliberating the name for DD1 and really like Effy/Effie. We don't, however, particularly like Euphemia.

Does anyone have any ideas for what her full name could be- we feel that Effy is a little bit like a nn, so wouldn't like to only have Effy as her full name. I really love Felicity- would it be strange to have Effy as a shortened version of Felicity?

Thanks!

It could be Euphemia?

iklboo · 27/06/2011 13:21

Sorry - only half your post came up, I missed the bit about Euphemia.

KnottyLocks · 27/06/2011 13:25

How about Iphigénie?

birdofthenorth · 27/06/2011 13:40

Affinity? Fiona? JosEPHIne?

Any DD2 I may have in future is likely to be Emmeline nn Emmy. You can share it instead of Effy if you like Grin

mummy2b2011 · 27/06/2011 13:46

oooh, lots of good ideas- I think Emmeline is gorgeous! Thoughts on Effy as a shortened version of Felicity... is it completely random?

Elizabeth or Josephine.

And if it's a boy, Efrain!

birdofthenorth · 27/06/2011 15:10

I think I probably would find Felicity a bit random as the full name tbh -but not completely contrived. I think if it was more commonly pronounced FEElicity rather than FUHlicity it will be a more natural fit.

CherryDrops · 27/06/2011 15:14

The only Effie I have ever met was a nn for Felicity. I thought that was normal!

20wkbaby · 27/06/2011 15:17

Seraphina?
Persephone?

Belljar71 · 27/06/2011 15:27

I have a Felicity and no Effie is not a nn for Felicity.Flik[which I loathe].Fliss or even FeFe is used.Effie is from the Greek for 'Pleasant speech' and I quite like it.Why not use it on the BC.I have a Hattie and that's what on her BC.

DessertsInReverse · 27/06/2011 18:54

felicity with a middle name starting with E eg felicity eve , felicity evelyn , felicity erin could at a push have the nn F.E (effie)

LeaveYourDignityAtTheDoor · 27/06/2011 19:04

Have only ever heard Effie being used as a nn for Fiona

wigglesrock · 27/06/2011 20:40

Damn, I'm a Fiona and Effie was never used as a nn, would have been so much cooler than mine - Fudge Blush

Karbea · 27/06/2011 20:53

Effy in skins was Elizabeth.

girliefriend · 27/06/2011 20:56

How about Essie as in Esther (I know one and always think Essie sounds lovely imo better than Effie which sounds a bit too much like Iffy!!!!)

Karbea · 27/06/2011 20:57

Evelyn?

If you love effie why don't you just call her that?

PatientGriselda · 27/06/2011 21:04

Ophelia, maybe?

thursday · 27/06/2011 22:24

i know a Stephanie who goes by Effie. i love the name Josephine and think you could use Effie for that. i have an Evelyn i call Evvy, but dont think i'd stretch to effie

mejon · 28/06/2011 12:30

DD goes to school with a little girl called Ephelia - never heard it before but it is very pretty.

colditz · 28/06/2011 12:35

I'd have thought Elizabeth would be the obvious one

DELHI · 28/06/2011 15:32

Effel? Grin

PipFEH · 28/06/2011 20:24

My friend is Frances and is known as Effie. I think traditionally it is short for Elizabeth, although not positive.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 28/06/2011 21:04

I'm Frances Emily and am known as Effie (FE = Effie)

mummy2b2011 · 28/06/2011 23:37

Thanks! Really helpful... you've mostly confirmed that it isn't really short for Felicity... need to make some decisions- she's due in 2 weeks! How long after she's born do we have to register her birth?
