My son rowan is 10 months but might change pronunciation. How do you say it?

My son rowan is 10 months. I love his name. I pronounce it like row (as in cow)-an. I'm Scottish and that's just the way I've always said this name. But when I introduce him must say majority people say roe-an (rhyme with row boat). I also like this pronunciation and the more time goes on wonder if should just say it this way. A few folk have mentioned the roe-an way is masculine, row-an feminine?? I don't want my child who I have given a unisex name a different pronunciation too.

Do you think I can/ should change how I say it?! I know need do it now before poor blighter confused.

I know it's up to us how we say it and all will follow but my thinking is more folk say roe-an, might be more male and I like it that way equally! Whether I can change it in my head I don't know though. I automatically say row (as in cow).

I would have said it was Row (as in in the boat) an and never knew there was a Row(cow) option.

I'd say as in cow in the first instance, but IME I am usually wrong and most people are as in row the boat.

I have a similar problem with my son, Lachlan, who DH and I pronoune loch-lan, but my dad, who is scots, pronounces it lachlan with first syllable rhyming with bat. Thinking we should have changed the spelling to suit the pronunciation?

If you like it row (rhyming with cow)-an, stick with it and people will just learn to say it like that.

Rowan Atkinson is roe-an, so is the tree I think. That may be why more people say roe-an.

I have never heard it pronounced as in cow (I am in Yorkshire). Round here it is row the boat Rowan. Rowan Atkinson is also pronounced as in row the boat.

The only Rowan (as in cow-an) that I know is scottish and female, all the Roe-ans I know are male - so I always assumed the pronunciation indicated gender :)

Never heard it as rhyming with 'cow' before. But you're Scottish so do we even pronounce cow the same? I'm not sure how 'cow' is pronounced with a Scottish accent so this might make a difference.

Actually my Scottish friend talks of 'heilan' coos' so to her cow is 'coo'.

I like the name very much, but have nixed it due to the pronunciation arguments!

Also Scottish and would pronounce to rhyme with cow. Don't change the pronunciation to fit in with other people if that's the way you like it.
