Classic and underused or modern and surnamey? Considering this name and everything written on origin points towards a classic and underused name with a very strong meaning.... But is this people's first impressions? Or do you think modern and surnamey? Thanks in advance!

Have never considered it before, but it is just unusual enough without being out there.

I like it a lot.

A no from me, if i close my eyes i can see the ankle tag, bull mastiff and bomber jacket.

I think because he was the school bully. Sorry.

I loathe it. Bad associations with the name for me - I knew an extremely unpleasant Conrad. I don't think it is modern and surnamey though.

MelinaM · 20/06/2011 00:22

Conrad Hilton springs to mind for me, and images of sleazy businessmen! It does sound quite surnamey too.

baskingseals · 20/06/2011 07:29

i like it

I too know an unpleasant Conrad... isn't that strange?!
The name itself sounds very Russian to me, and makes me think of big furry hats Smile

lalalonglegs · 20/06/2011 09:52

I worked for Conrad Black for many years which would rule it out for me - it's a name which will forever be associated with hubris in my mind.

shoobidoo · 20/06/2011 11:18

Lovely underused name. As with any name, peoples' associations change whenver they meet a 'new' version - and I'm sure your ds will be a lovely boy so they'll all have lovely associations thinking of Conrad Smile.

We had it on our shortlist too.

DrNortherner · 20/06/2011 11:20

I know a very nice grown up Conrad.

BUT, I read a comic as a kid and there was a wekly story about an evil doll called Conrad......

bigbluebump · 20/06/2011 11:33

I like Conrad. Not overused, easy to spell/pronounce and sounds good in most lanugages. Great choice imo.

tammytoby · 20/06/2011 13:02

I like it.

Wasn't bowled over when DH suggested it for DS2 but have come to love it enough to make it his first name.

EskimoPie · 20/06/2011 21:14

Great name - really strong! I know of one who must be about 10 now. Not sure how he turned out though!

Rhubarbgarden · 20/06/2011 23:33

Love it.

Nice Germanic name. Very solid.

MEBMotherof3 · 21/06/2011 08:43

Conrad was the name of the school bully for me too! But (trying to be objective) I guess it's alright, unusual without being weird!

Stangirl · 21/06/2011 13:08

Joseph Conrad - great writer. Like it.
