Help with muslim names needed!

Hi all,
Im 22 weeks with dc2, we didnt find out the sex so need boys and girls names. DH is muslim and I am not. DS has english first name and muslim middle name, all my family call him by his first name and all dhs family call him by his muslim name, which he answers to both, no problems there.

For this baby I want everyone to call him/her by the same name. We had decided that we want a english sounding/easy to pronounce muslim name.......and thats as far as we got.

Any help/suggestions with boys/girls names would be greatly appreciated.

Frankly most Muslim names will work in your average UK - certainly London - playground!

I love the name Amina. I think it works in both cultures, IMO

Thank you both, I love Aisha but dh says there are too many Aisha's.
I also really like the name Amina but its one of dhs ex-girlfriends names so that has put me off!! haha! he wouldnt want to use it either! :)
The thing is there are so many girls names that I think would work with both cultures but struggling with boys names! :(

Oh and forgot to say...have a strong feeling baby will be a boy! :)

Not Mohammad!! I don't think I've ever met a little Muslim boy who hasn't been called Mohammad! And if DH says there are too many Aisha's he'll have a fit when he sees how many mohammads there are.

My friend is married to a Turkish Muslim and their 3 children have Turkish, rather than Muslim names. All are lovely, and very simple to pronounce. One is even a relatively common name in English, too.

Is there any way you could maybe do this instead?

We had the same problem - could have named a girl a hundred times over but really struggled with boys names. We had a list of 2! Faris or Ali.

I'm in the same boat, although hubby is muslim with a very small 'm'. I want a boys name that is asian but can be shortened to a western name. We have Jasmine and Samir already, dh fancies Camran. I've not had any joy googling asian names, and I don't know many other asian mums to ask them.

My sons name is apparently muslim although have also been told its hindu so I don't know, the name is technically Niren although i spell it Neiran as thats how its pronounced as if Keiran/Ciaran but with a N. Obviously thats my favourite

A friend of mine has a muslim husband, their children are as follows: Sabriya (sabreea), Amber, Jada (jayda), Jennah

Others which work with both cultures for girls are Lana, Leila, Maali, Nadyne, Nahla, Rania, Raya, Rohaan, Rubia, Samia, Zayra

and for boys Haris, Kamran, Mika, Sahm,

This is all personal opinion though because to me looking through muslim names online, there are so many, probably over 50, which are common names to me, ok not a regular as something like tom or joe but probably on a level with Harriet and Aidan.

Natasha is not a "Muslim" name as such - it means Christ's birthday, so it has an ok meaning. It was approved by my MIL so deffo has no bad connotations in Urdu and she said it translates roughly to 'Gift of God'. I guess it would depend on how religious you are as to whether you'd use it.

Two of my closest friends at school were Muslim (both girls). Here are their names and middle names: Maariah Aliah and Noor Khadijah. I think they're all really pretty names. For boys I like Jamal and Hassan :)

Muslim friends of ours have just called their newborn DS "Raiyan" and the dad described their choice over the phone as "sounds like Ryan" - LOL! Apparently it's one of the gates to Paradise...
