Never occurred to me.

The "knock knock" joke on the other hand......

mistressploppy · 13/06/2011 18:50

A mosquito? Is that it? How does it go?

meditrina · 13/06/2011 18:53

That's the one!

With sequels:

Anna (another mosquito)
Helen (hell! Yet another mosquito)

And the modern one:

Apple (a plague of Mosquitos)

Not anus, just awful.

Awomancalledhorse · 13/06/2011 19:47

Had a boy at school called Anus, sorry Amos...he was known to everyone as Anus. Sorry.

reikizen · 13/06/2011 19:47

Ha ha, that has made me laugh. It is a shit name to be fair!

Blu · 13/06/2011 19:50

Your DH is just gross and negative.

mistressploppy · 13/06/2011 19:51

The Amos I know has never been called anus. Apart from the last letter there is not much similarity imo - they're pronounced quite differently.

I'd be more worried about a name like William, whose obvious nickname is Willy.

My ds is Amos - I love it. To me the pronunciation is not very like anus at all.
Nobody has ever called ds anus, but he is not starting school until September, it certainly wouldn't occur to me. I am confident it wont be a problem. Kids can make any old nonsense out of any name.

KangarooCaught · 13/06/2011 22:28

I think Amos is cool and never would make that connection (your dh is lovely I'm sure but daft on this occasion)

Didn't cross my mind either.

Amos is a very nice name.

BuntyPenfold · 14/06/2011 08:39

It never occurred to me.
Recently some one said Angus is called anus, as it is easy to 'accidentally' leave out one letter.

MamaLazarou · 14/06/2011 12:30

it always sounds like anus to me, yes.

ja9 · 14/06/2011 12:33

I like it. Would never have occurred to me.

tammytoby · 14/06/2011 14:03

Amos is not any closer to Anus than Will is to Willy or Benedict to Bendy Dick or Ellie to Smellie Ellie or any other name to any other silly word.... In other words kids will tease any name. But in my experience kids actually accept most names for what they are - there doesn't seem to be much teasing about names at my dcs school (and there is a big range of names from all cultures!).

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 14/06/2011 17:46

I had a cat called Amos and it never occurred to be before.

I do, however, have a 5 month old son (and a 13 year old cat, but that's another story) called Angus. And that's only 1 letter away from Anus. And that did occur to me, but DH got his way
