He is seven months now. When I told her his name she said "oh. you don't mind him being bullied when he's older then" Shock.

His name is Alessandro.

Funnys I went to school with a Fabian. He didn't get bullied. He was the bully but I don't think it was anything to do with his name!

TeddyMcardle · 12/06/2011 22:11

Grin Funnys yep that's me too.

LynetteScavo · 12/06/2011 22:12

Rude people are so......rude!

PatriciatheStripper · 12/06/2011 22:33

I love my DC's names and that is really all that matters

Er, well, I must disagree with that. What matters most is whether the child likes it.

Obviously one cannot know that at the time of naming, but still.

birdofthenorth · 12/06/2011 22:36

Lovely name!

DD has what I thought was an uncontentious though not hugely common "English" name & I've still had reactions which cheese me off.

You chose it because you love it, I presume, just take pride in his gorgeous name which felt just right to you & try not to give two hoots what some rude cunt you've just met thinks!

birdofthenorth · 12/06/2011 22:37

PS my cousin is Antonio, also Anglo-Italian, never had any piss-taking as far as I know Smile

birdofthenorth · 12/06/2011 22:44

TheFirstMrsD is he R(e)uben?!

If not your in-laws are even odder!!

Eve · 12/06/2011 22:58

Same name as my son, he's 12, 1/2 Italian as well and never been teased!

Eve · 12/06/2011 23:03

Ps...he & his brother love the lady gaga song and sing along to it at top volume changing the name to Alessandro.

They even at the girls at a competition recently joining in with the singing and changing to Alessandro.

puffling · 12/06/2011 23:08

She probably wasn't listening properly and just heard the 'alice' bit at the beginning.

Eve · 12/06/2011 23:10

We pronounce my sons as

Al lay sand ro

Rather than Alice sand ro

If that makes sense

A1980 · 12/06/2011 23:14

I don't care for Alessandro. But I'd never say anything or make a comment about it. Very rude of her.

lordsugarslovechild · 12/06/2011 23:23

You just did.

A1980 · 12/06/2011 23:27

In your context I meant, to a parents face and also saying he would be bullied for it. Saying I don't personally care for the name IMO isnt rude whereas what that other person said was.

You're very very defensive. I'm sorry I don't care for your choice of name and woudn't use it myself but why do you care so much if you like it? Confused

LadyWord · 12/06/2011 23:28

Agree about the twat filter or perhaps boring person filter. With my DC's unusual names, there are people who love them and comment on how cool/beautiful they are, and people who go "oh" or "Oh well" or "what? eh? how do you spell it? That's a bit UNUSUAL" (in a tone that says unusual = appalling) etc.

Plus the very special few who know what my DC's names actually mean and start a conversation about that - I love them!

Alessandro is fab. And among my DS's acquaintance there are loads of unusual names and names from various cultures - e.g chinese, irish, gaelic, spanish and arabic as well as british, and that's just in his class. None of them bat an eyelid.

lordsugarslovechild · 12/06/2011 23:41

A1980 you are obviously just mad.

Confused back at ya.

A1980 you are obviously just mad.

And you think that woman was rude? Interesting. Grin

Fine it's a fucking stupid name then. Grin

largeginandtonic · 13/06/2011 10:41

Funny i have long been camapaining for a Fabian, i am VERY jealous. Rafe is also splendid. I have a mate considering it for her 2nd.

Do you want my address for the Christmas card list? Grin

thefirstMrsDeVere · 13/06/2011 10:45

birdofthenorth no he is called Rudy!

Do they think I am so odd that I would call my son Ruby? (I think I have already answered that).

I love Rueben but used it on a dog years ago and things didnt end well with dear (but very stupid) canine Rueben so I didnt use it again.

MollysChamber · 13/06/2011 10:46

I like Rudy.

Very cute.

largeginandtonic · 13/06/2011 10:47

Rudy is fabulous MrsD. I quite like Rudolph atm (baby due in Dec) i could call him Rudy for short. Dh thinks i am insane.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 13/06/2011 10:54

Do you want to know the whole thing?

Rudy Asa Billy Cassius Hendrix

I keep forgetting what order they are all in though.
In my defence he is our last baby and I had to use all my names up.

I know how much MN loves multiple names (haha)

largeginandtonic · 13/06/2011 10:56

Lovely MrsD Grin

I too am having my last (I AM) but not sure dh will let me use ALL my favourite names.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 13/06/2011 11:00

My OH has never really got a look in TBH. He vetoed Daisy for DD and I let him have that. But I name them. I DO ask for his input but its a courtesy really. On the way to register DC4 I asked him 'shall we add Lennon?' (to Asher Marley Willam) and he said 'why not?' so its not like he is totally ignored Grin

He did try and tell me that his mum named the children in his family. Yeah right Hmm

lalalonglegs · 13/06/2011 11:40

What on earth is the problem with Alessandro Confused?
