Chester and Conrad

2 names a friend is currently considering for her son, just wondered what people though as both are rarely used but I don't have negative connotations with either...?

I like Conrad.

Chester is ok but for some reason I don't like it that much.

Both are good underused classic names. Does one go better with your surname?

It's not for me (although Chester is on my list too!) but surname begins with N so I don't think there's a problem with either.

I was just wondering what these names made people think of as there very unpopular but I can't think of any reason why really?

I prefer Conrad, but I am biased, having one already.

They sound like dog's names to me.I hate them both.

Being unpopular just means they're not as 'fashionable' as names in the top 50 or 100. Nothing wrong with them though, in fact it is much less likely that there'll be more than one in class which imo is a good thing given that the whole point of naming someone/something is to identify them.

I know dogs named Max, Alex, Oscar and all sorts of names.

Conrad was my first love....

I sort of like Conrad, but at the same time, it's sounds so smug I want to laugh. I'm afraid no child of mine with my modest background could pull it off.

Chester is a bit woof woof, but less 'oh come and sun bathe on my yacht'.

If you have a yacht then pick Conrad tho.

Chester sounds either very American - surname rather than first name - or just the name of a town - Chester, Manchester, Colchester. Roman name for settlement. Don't like it at all.

Conrad is a strong. German name. Prefer it by a long way - sounds more like a first name.

Really Like Conrad, I know two one's a baby the others in his 20's.

Conrad is fine, but I don't like Chester at all - I think like greenwing I see it as a place name only.

Chester is AWFUL. He'll be called Charlie-Chester-child-molester at secondary school (according to DP who went to school with someone who had the unfortunate name).

Both are awful names.

When I was at school the kids used to call a man down the road Chester child molester. Conrad is not brilliant either.

Chester is a place name or possibly a dog's name, although I don't dislike it as a human name.

Conrad may be perceived as super-posh or try-hard.

what I found about it is people either love it ot they go its horrible Very rare people go " oh ok"

We have met 1 other Conrad he is 40 and says our Conrad is the first other Conrad he has met yet everyone knows the name. I love it.

With my surname it sounds like a cool, 1930s detective.

My great aunt is 96. She loves it and says it's "classic", so I don't agree with people who say it's 'new American surname shite'.
