I am obviously too keen as i am only just about to give birth to a girl in two weeks, but am already thinking about next ones name and if a boy i love Sidney, Arthur or ralph which do you prefer...also my maiden name is Sage was thinking about using it as a boys name?
i know sage stallone which is negative for me but still deciding whether i like it!? Surname is Buchanan so Sage Buchanan?sound like a scottish herb?

Why don't you use Sage for your dd - it sounds feminine to me.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 02/06/2011 17:09

It's a girls name.

FriskyMare · 02/06/2011 17:14

My first reaction was WTF, but on reflection, Sage Buchanan sounds lovely (for a girl though, not a boy).

PatriciatheStripper · 02/06/2011 20:04

If it was my maiden name I would give it as a middle name, no question. It's a bit ambiguous to use officially as a first name to my mind, but that's because I'm generally not keen on surnames-as-first-names. Then if the child chose to be known as Sage, that'd be fine by me.

scurryfunge · 02/06/2011 20:13

I have always thought of it as a boy's name.

LillianGish · 02/06/2011 20:14

I'm with you avenginggerbil! Though Sage Buchanan does sound rather distinguished.

Georgimama · 02/06/2011 20:17

It's one of those sorts of names that has built in expectations, though. What if a child called Sage isn't sage but a bumbling fool? Like Verity the compulsive liar and Bella the ugly as sin. Too loaded.

tstar · 03/06/2011 14:20

girl / boy i love it!

tstar · 03/06/2011 14:28

Um I love all your boys names, I was going to use Ralph as a second name (family name).......Sidney is awsome .......Arther is sweet. Sage as a middle name is a geat way to use your name. I love it all. :)

Suncottage · 03/06/2011 14:33

I work in accounts. Sage means work I'm afraid. Smile

YesterdaysPants · 03/06/2011 14:35

Pink has just called her daughter Willow Sage, which I think is lovely.

pilates · 03/06/2011 14:51

I would use it as a middle name

B52s · 03/06/2011 16:09

Sage is lovely, boy or girl. Just don't name subsequent ones Basil or Oregano.

bufforpingtonchick · 03/06/2011 16:22

Basiiillll!

I think of it as the sage colour green. I love it! But I agree with the others who said maybe use it as a middle name?
