Love Beatrix -- others are OK, but not to my taste really.

mathanxiety · 30/05/2011 21:42

I also love Beatrix. Augusta makes me think of Augustus Gloop. Octavia is too 'I Claudius' for my taste.

Maternelle · 30/05/2011 21:44

Beatrix is lovely.

Rosemallow · 30/05/2011 21:46

Love Beatrix. Octavia is the name of a Skoda so that puts me off. Augusta I am indifferent about.

londonone · 30/05/2011 21:52

Beatrix is also my fave. Any other names in the same spirit/theme that anyone can suggest

I think Beatrice is softer and prettier than Beatrix.

Rosemallow · 30/05/2011 22:14

Aurelia
Clementine
Beatrice
Elodie
Helena

I had great fun on it when I was pg with DS.

love augusta and octavia not sure i'd be brave enough to use them , as they're a bit of a mouthful imo ,and their nns tavie and gussie aren't to my taste.
beatrix is ok but prefer beatrice
how about

persephone
ophelia
aurora
aurelia
ottoline/ottilie

londonone · 31/05/2011 09:59

Really like clementime and persephone. Never really been one for NN but it's definitely something to consider.

Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix. Everytime I hear the name Octavia I just think of the ostrich on Pipkins, LOL showing my age now!!!! Really not keen on Augusta, sounds quite a harsh name for a girl. So out of three I would say Beatrix.

pilates · 31/05/2011 18:21

Beatrice sounds better.

lurkerspeaks · 31/05/2011 19:45

Someone canvassed this recently - I really like Beatrice but Beatrix has too big and Asterix connotation for me.

Like Octavia - but will she be the 8th child?

No keen on Augusta.

Like some of the other suggestions above - Clementine, Ophelia especially.

ManicAnnie · 31/05/2011 19:51

Beatrix is great

squeak2392 · 31/05/2011 19:55

I think they're all great! The only one I would use myself is Octavia, but the others are brilliant for 'someone else's child'.

How about one I plan on using: Honoria?

Sylvaniasandwich · 31/05/2011 20:00

I like Octavia. Augusta sounds like a plump strict old woman to me. Prefer Beatrice.

Bumperlicioso · 31/05/2011 20:11

Love Octavia, not fussed on the others. Love that link! Would have saved a lot of arguing when dd2 was due!

whizzyrocket · 01/06/2011 21:21

Beatrix is great. A name with real character, you could imagine it suiting a really glamorous woman as well as a little girl. I do hope you'd shorten it to Bea rather than Trixy though- Trixy is only really acceptable as a name for a poodle! :P

I like Octavia and Augusta, but they do rather remind me of Bertie Wooster's aunts- if you know your P.G. Wodehouse.

londonone · 03/06/2011 14:20

I think that is partly whay I like about Augusta and Octavia. You can imagine a judge called Augusta, no messing with her!

Def wouldn't be trixy!

SloganLogan · 03/06/2011 14:29

I like Octavia :) It has a flowing sound and is unusual.

Not so keen on Augusta, I think it's the "gust" sound I don't like. Aurelia a prettier alternative IMO.

Beatrix is a bit try-hard, I just think why not Beatrice?

londonone · 03/06/2011 14:34

Because I personally find Beatrice a bit wet sounding! Aurelia always makes me think Areola therefore a definite no!

B52s · 03/06/2011 16:07

I have a Skoda Octavia.
It is a car.
Aurelia is beautiful, but then I like jellyfish.
Aurora is also nice - wasn't it a Disney Proncess name?
