It's a bears name. Dont go stealing it now!

Ruthie32 · 30/05/2011 16:10

I love it and started a thread about it recently too where it got mixed reviews.
I have since changed my mind though having tried and failed to picture a grumpy spotty 16 year old called Rupert....!

itsohsoquiet · 30/05/2011 16:38

yeh and oscar is a dogs name

LynetteScavo · 30/05/2011 16:40

Love it!

And Oscar is a man's which recently has been given to dogs. Hmm

MeantToStopAtTwo · 30/05/2011 16:43

I like it.

roguepixie · 30/05/2011 16:44

No. Just don't like it I'm afraid. Sorry.

usualsuspect · 30/05/2011 16:44

Just no

CandiceMariePratt · 30/05/2011 17:01

I love it, I used to know a Rupert who had a brother Barnaby

Hope88 · 30/05/2011 18:34

Love it.

mynameis · 30/05/2011 18:40

Not the bear who springs to my mind more the womanising Rupert Campbell-Black. Way too much Jilly Cooper reading Grin

Love the name

rachel234 · 30/05/2011 21:01

I really like Rupert. If people are worried about the Bear connotations, what about Felix the cat, Thomas the tank engine, Barney the dinosaur, etc etc. People will soon loose these association when they meet a person with one of these names.

And I don't think any name is going to make a grumpy spotty 16 year old cool Grin.

oohlaalaa · 31/05/2011 09:18

All the Rupert's I have ever met have been terribly posh. Quite like the name, but would not use it. We do not mix in Rupert circles.

rachel234 · 31/05/2011 11:49

The only way for names like Rupert to become less posh is if more 'common' people use it Smile.

wordsonascreen · 31/05/2011 11:55

I knew a lovely Rupert years back he had lovely floppy hair and played polo

thighs of steel

[happy sigh]

missmiss · 31/05/2011 11:58

Love it.

leddeeburdee · 31/05/2011 12:05

DH is a Rupert. And really not that posh. To be fair he did get a lot of stick as a younger child but loves it now, as do I.

tiredteddy · 31/05/2011 12:23

Isn't the red headed lad on the Harry Potter films called Rupert?? That's a teenage (maybe spotty) Rupert!

whizzyrocket · 01/06/2011 21:31

I've known a few (always with floppy hair) and I like it, but they will be teased rotten if you are intending to send your boy to the local comp. Nothing wrong with the local comp, but I work there and the kids I teach say William and Oliver are posh names for toffs, so goodness knows what they'd do with a Rupert!

I think of it as a young name though as I've never known an old one! The one I know best is highly reminiscent of Prince Charming in Shrek! Hair flipping included!

d0gFace · 02/06/2011 14:13

My friends called Rupert, gets rupe. I think its a cool name.

muminthemiddle · 02/06/2011 14:38

I love it! Dh vetoed it. Always reminds me of Rupert Penry -Jones, gorgeous.

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 02/06/2011 19:23

I like it. Prefer Rufus though.
