repeating same initials for child number 3

Hi

A work colleague of mine is pregnant with number 3 and was saying yesterday that both of her children have the same initials for their first and middle names, for eg, Joseph Andrew and Jack Anthony. This was purely coincidence as the mid names are family names, only realised shortly after naming second son.
She was asking if she thought she should do the same for number 3 as he/she might feel left out?
I said it wouldn't matter and might even be easier long term if she didn't.

What do you think?

I wouldn't personally. I have the same first initial as my dsis, but our middle names are diffferent. This caused enough confusion with dentist reminders etc when we were both at home. Are the 1st two siblings the same sex? ie both Mr J A Smith? Otherwise Miss JA and Mr JA would be easier to distinguish, adding a 3rd would complicate matters more.

My two dd's both have the same 1st initial, but we deliberatley picked different initial middle names for this reason.

We have our third hypothetical girls name picked out starting with the same initial (purely coindental for the 1st two- but deliberatley picked 3rd name to 'go' with them,) whereas our boys name is different initial and was the original boys name we chose when expecting dd1

I think on balance having the frst two names with the same initial repeated is a bit much. I do have 3 older siblings with the same first initial (mum wanted to save on naming school clothes I think ), but I agree with you having another JA would be a bit odd...

FWIW I have a different initial to my 3 siblings and it's never crossed my mind that I am left out.

I often roll my eyes at repeated initials, but I don't really mind it. I don't think she has to at this point, as 2/3 is just a coincidence. 3+ is most likely deliberate and the next would feel left out.

I might be unusual in this, but I prefer repeated first name and middle name initials to just repeated first names.
