Is there a name like Juniper, but not Juniper?

Juniper is almost my perfect name.

My issues with is are

(a) it sounds like Jew nipper; one who bites Jewish people.

(b) nipper is an ugly sound.

But Juniper is lovely... and Juney is gorgeous, and my other daughter has a Woo, nature name...

What to do?

Noooo! Nipper was the name of the HMV dog, it's really cute. :)

Hullygully · 26/05/2011 15:11

Punyjew?

allhailtheaubergine · 26/05/2011 15:17

Oh, we'' if it's a dog's name... that's much better.

Problem solved. Thanks Hul.

Mulberry? Or, given that Gin contains juniper berries.... or perhaps not :o

TheMoreItSnows · 26/05/2011 15:24

You've got Juno haven't you, of Roman goddess status.... like Juniper without the nipper.... I'm not being very helpful am I?!

typsical · 26/05/2011 15:26

Geneva - meaning 'juniper tree'...?

allhailtheaubergine · 26/05/2011 15:30

Mulberry is too handbag.

Juno sounds like sumo in my head.

Geneva is an airport.

Outlandish suggestions perfectly welcome. You would die if I told you my first daughter's name.

Sloe

Pyracantha

Agapanthus

typsical · 26/05/2011 15:33

Hmmm, maybe Genevieve? Or Dewdrop?

Would love to know daughter's name!!

MaryBS · 26/05/2011 15:34

Jocasta
Jerusalem (artichoke for a middle name)
Jubilee
Jezebel

allhailtheaubergine · 26/05/2011 15:37

Sloe = Slow

Pyracantha = Pyromaniac

Agapanthus = too underpants-y

Genevieve = I like it, but DH will probably think too French

Dewdrop = too silly even for me.

allhailtheaubergine · 26/05/2011 15:39

Jocasta - too aspirational
Jerusalem - Not a pretty sound
Jubilee - possible.
Jezebel - too biblical prostitute.

There was that Donovan song, Jennifer Juniper ...

Jennifer is uncommon these days, or there are the Arthurian variations Guinevere, Guenever .....

typsical · 26/05/2011 15:47

Tulip?

SugarSkyHigh · 26/05/2011 15:48

Jupiter?

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 26/05/2011 16:05

Genevieve is lovely. If you want 'nature' names, Sorrel, Honeysuckle, Clover or Violet.

Fimbo · 26/05/2011 16:10

Willow
Bracken
River
Fenn

We have a fab waitress in our local Pizza Express called Clover can never do enough for you. Very sing songy.

excellentadventure · 26/05/2011 16:13

Clover is nice, reminds me of the 'What Katy Did' books. Surprised it's never been popular.

midnightexpress · 26/05/2011 16:13

Myrtle? I know a v cool Myrtle.

Did you know that genévrier is French for Juniper, so Genevieve is sort of like juniper in that way, iyswim.

Broody1976 · 26/05/2011 16:20

Myrtle reminds me of moaning myrtle from Harry Potter.

Genevieve is lovely.

allhailtheaubergine · 26/05/2011 16:45

From the age of 8 I was utterly determined to call my daughter Clover. I had forgotten! (Big WKD fan) Grin

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 26/05/2011 17:16
