I can see people using Pippa as its quite cutesy along the lines of Poppy and theres a few names like that around these days but Philippa not so much, it is very clearly a boys name with "a" on the end and you hardly see that nowadays, personally not keen at all on the long version

Blimey, not many of you keen on this name then.

As a Philippa myself, I think it's a great name. People always know what you're saying when on the phone for example. Yet you don't meet loads of other people with the same name. And only the slightly dim people spell it Phillipa.

I think it will probably become more popular after the wedding though.

Do it, it's lovely.

I have always like the name Pippa.
Not so keen on Phillipa though

I went to school with a very unfortunate looking Phillipa, so I tend to associate it with her.

Pippa's OK. I had a 'pippa' doll...

I think it is a lovely strong middle class name - and I think in terms of popularity it is likely to shoot up the lists in America as I think they are having a massive love affair with Ms Middleton at the moment. Not sure that will happen over here as I think she has received a bit of a mixed reception (men seem more keen on her than women!!).

I used to work with a Philippa who was from SA and absolutely lovely.

bigbluebump · 27/05/2011 13:24

I think a lot of peoplw would get the spelling wrong - Phillipa, Philipa, Phillippa etc.

Pinkjenny · 27/05/2011 13:27

Just reminds me of vintage Home and Away!

S'ok.

evamummy · 27/05/2011 21:35

Not keen at all, I'm afraid. And Pippa is too childish imo.

I'm a Philippa and I love my name. I was named after my Dad, which I'm not that keen on, but it is a great name. People do spell it wrong though, they get the l's and the p's mixed up quite frequently.

I'm generally known as Pippa or Pip and I've heard all the Home and Away and Pippi Longstocking gags. There are lots of options for nicknames and shortened names though and I don't think it will take off too much. Go for it!

I am a Phillippa - with the 2 ll's and 2 pp's - I know of several Philippa's - horsey middle class type who went to private school - I am not horsey and did not go to private school.

I like being Pippa (Pip to my friends) but then I was not named after P Middy - at the moment it does run the risk of becoming v.popular for a short period of time - but that doesnt stop it being a good name!
