I have recently drawn up a list of potential names, which will hopefully be used for baby number 3. We have got a Benjamin and Isabella. Not pregnant yet but will hopefully be TTC pretty soon. Me and DH have been discussing names already Blush and are considering:

Boys

Edward
Quentin/Quintin (Quin)
John
Sebastian
Henry
Alexander (Xander)
Arthur

Girls

Elizabeth
Beatrice
Matilda
Saffron
Penelope (Penny)

Any feedback, both positive or negative would be useful at this early stage. Thanks Smile

Ilike Sebastian for a boy and Saffron for a girl (because its my dd2's name) Grin, i also like Matilda but not keen on the others (they are ok but not names a would use).

tammy234 · 23/05/2011 14:57

Love Quentin (we have on so am biased Smile), Alexander and Arthur. Sebastian is nice too but I dislike Seb/Sebbie.

Love Elizabeth (lots of lovely nicknames), Penelope and Beatrice. Matilda is very popular and Saffron sounds a little masculine to my ears.

tummytickler · 23/05/2011 14:59

I love Quentin, John and Penelope.
Elizabeth is ok, has nice nn
Beatrice, Matilda are a bit boring.
Saffron , not keen.
I like Alexander but not the nn Xander
Henry is ok, but not wow.
Arthur and Edward are really dull, and I dislike Ted, Ned and Eddie

rachel234 · 23/05/2011 15:00

I like Quentin, Henry and Arthur from your boys list and Beatrice and Penelope from the girls. Penny is very cute imo.

hellokitty123 · 23/05/2011 15:05

My favourites are John (classic and underused), Quentin and Xander. Henry and Edward are quite popular I also dislike Seb/Sebby.
I prefer Penelope and Elizabeth from your girls list - both are feminine classic names with nice nicknames. Matilda very popular and I'm not keen on Saffron, I'm afraid (isn't it a spice?).

hulabula · 23/05/2011 15:17

cadifflur · 23/05/2011 17:28

I think Sebastian and Elizabeth are the two names that go best with your DCs' names.

mopsyflopsy · 23/05/2011 17:31

I love Elizabeth and Quentin (we have one, so I am biased and no, we are not posh at all Smile). I also like Alexander and Penelope.

bigbluebump · 23/05/2011 17:33

My favourites are Edward, Quentin and Henry. And Beatrice, Elisabeth and Penelope. Lovely classic names Smile.

MrsRupertBear · 23/05/2011 21:02

Thankyou so much for all your responses. Most of the names have come out ok amongst the mumsnet jury Grin.
Me and DH really like classic names that hopefully won't date. However, both our DD and DS have got quite popular names although so far, they have only ever been the only ones in the classroom and mother and toddler group. This time around, we still want to stick to classical names but something not as popular as the other two DC's names. My SIL also suggested Florence when naming DD which I too really like but DH not so sure. If anybody has any other suggestions for classical names we havn't considered, please feel free to offer suggestions Smile.

I like Penelope, Elizabeth and Henry from your list.

I also think that Josephine (nn Posy) goes beautifully with your other DC's names and isn't overly common (as in popular).

dapperflapper · 24/05/2011 06:21

My favourites are Penelope and Quentin

randomimposter · 24/05/2011 07:07

With your existing DC names I think
Sebastian or Alexander
Matilda or Beatrice
work best.
Not necessarily my faves, but work best. Like all your names except not wild on Penelope.

SloganLogan · 24/05/2011 08:33

James, George, William

Juliet, Clara, Miriam

pilates · 24/05/2011 08:58

Henry or Edward. Quentin is awful.

Like your girl names except Saffron & Penelope.

shoobidoo · 24/05/2011 09:39

I really like Alexander/Xander, Quentin/Quin and John/Jonny. Edward and Henry/Harry are ok but very widely used already. I'm not keen on Seb/Sebbie although Sebastian sounds nice.

From the girls I love Penelope (Penny) and Elizabeth. Also like the suggestion of Josephine/Josie. I'm not keen on Matilda/Tilly (too faddy) or Saffron (don't like the sound, I'm afraid).

loobylu3 · 24/05/2011 10:58

Boys

Edward- lovely, strong name
Quentin/Quintin (Quin)- nice.
John- yes and Jonathan
Sebastian- nice
Henry- love it.
Alexander (Xander)- okay
Arthur- I like it a lot but it may date as it is part of the 'old man chic' trend.

Girls

Elizabeth- okay- not my favourite classic.
Beatrice- lovely.
Matilda- I really like it but it has suddenly become v popular so may date.
Saffron- not as classic as Benjamin/ Isabella.
Penelope (Penny) - lovely!

If you are after a classic name that won't date, I think Henry, Edward, Alexander and John, possibly Quentin would be your best choices for a boy and Elizabeth followed by Beatrice or Penelope for a girl.
Have you considered:
Julia/ Juliet
Clara/Claire
Helena
Alice
Jane
Susanna
Katharine/ Kate
Francesca
Anna
Lucy
Thomas
William
Charles
Patrick
Marcus
Peter

poppydaisy · 24/05/2011 11:24

Edward - nice although I'm not keen on Ed/Eddie
Quentin/Quintin (Quin) - strong classic name
John - strong classic name
Sebastian - nice although I'm less keen on Seb
Henry - nice classic but quite popular
Alexander (Xander) - nice but quite popular
Arthur - nice but may date with the other Archie/Alfie type old men names

Girls

Elizabeth - lovely classic name
Beatrice - lovely classic name
Matilda - very popular, may date (esp Tilly/Milly)
Saffron - don't like
Penelope (Penny) - lovely classic name

MrsRupertBear · 24/05/2011 16:57

Thanks again everyone Grin. I am really liking Josephine, so will add that to my list. Also Juliet, Francesca and Peter have also got the thumbs up from my DH. It looks like Penelope and Elizabeth are doing quite well at the moment, alongside Quentin (I think!), John and Alexander. Hmm interesting.
