It's OK, no strong reactions either way!

sleepingsowell · 22/05/2011 19:10

It's lovely

I love the name Merry for a girl, it's one of my absolute favourite names, would you nickname Merry?

4madboys · 22/05/2011 19:13

i LOVE it, but i would do as my 5mth old dd is called it!!

we have lots of comments about how nice it is and unusual but like you say not 'out there'

and re nicknames we thought she would maybe be 'rin' i dont really like merry, but so far she just gets called Merryn, or 'missy merryn' by her 4 big brothers.

it is a FAB name Grin

In Cornwall there is a meat producer abatoir called St Merryn Meat, so I'd always think of that, they supply lots of meat to Tesco and are also based in Wales, so are fairly well known.

Sorry Sad, I like Merry though, maybe Meredith?

BorisTheBold · 22/05/2011 19:14

Ha ha knew you'd be on here 4mad.

p.s. I think it's fab too.

merryn is a cornish name :) its from the place and something else that i can remember and it means something like joyful/delight? i have the meaning on another thread on another parenting site somewhere...

waves at boris, who's dd is called what our dd was nearly called! Grin

4madboys · 22/05/2011 19:17

oh its a saints name and was that LONG before it was the meat producers name!

4madboys · 22/05/2011 19:18

btw be prepared for people to get you to repeat is as they say 'mary/miriam' etc and i am like NO merryn, but honestly on the whole i have had LOTS of lovely comments about my dd's name and you can pretty much bet she will be the only one, i have yet to meet another!

infact where are you? not in the norwich area i hope?! Grin

oaks56 · 22/05/2011 19:58

No we are in the midlands. Well away from the meat producers lol.
Think we would call her Merry as a nn but like that its traditional but there arent going to be 5 in her class called the same.

I love Merryn - had a cousin called this and always thought it was unusual and beautiful.

ellangirl · 23/05/2011 08:58

Great name, I know one little girl called Merryn, and she doesn't get a nn. There is also Murron/Mirren which are similar sounding scottish names, if you are interested.

Love Merryn, hate Merry.
