Title says it all really. DD was born nearly two weeks ago and we still haven't got a name. What do you all think about the name Phoebe? I want a 'normal' name that people know, can spell etc, but that is relatively uncommon. I can't remember the last Phoebe I met. Are there lots in other areas?

Also, we already have DD Mia and DS Joe. If we have Joe and Phoebe will people think we're naming our kids after Friends characters?!

I know three, one is 1yo and two are 3yo. I wouldn't call it uncommon at all.

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/05/2011 16:23

I like Phoebe but it does still have some Friends connections for me. There are 2 in dd's pre school year

Sorry sweetie - just back from hols Grin

Pinkjenny · 20/05/2011 16:28

I feel we haven't really helped, OP Grin

Any other suggestions?

VivClicquot · 20/05/2011 16:44

I have a three week old Phoebe and she is amazing. Do it. :)

birdofthenorth · 20/05/2011 16:49

Phoebe is pretty popular where I am but it's a gorgeous name.

Unless DS is known as Joey much I think you're ok for the Friends association -unless DC4 is Chandler!

smallpotato · 20/05/2011 16:55

lovely name, it is popular, but not uber-popular like Evie or Isabel.

As an alternative, how about Polly?

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/05/2011 16:55

I agree that Joe & Phoebe together wouldn't necessarily suggest a Friends theme.

Congratulations btw OP Smile

Phoebe is lovely. Joe connection had not occured to me, and besides it was Joey on Friends.

Pussinflatboots · 20/05/2011 17:48

Really like it. Dd would have been phoebe had our surname not begun with a 'b', thus making it tricky to say.

valiumbandwitch · 20/05/2011 20:43

I love Phoebe. There are others but it's not one of those names that makes you think, right, of course.

Lonnie · 20/05/2011 21:00

I have a Phoebe she is 13. currently we know of one other Phoebe whom is in year 2 (so 7ish) we do come accross them (and she went to infant school with another Phoebe) but not that often that I mind it much Even now 13 years on I still love the name it is one of those rare names that has no age I can see her as an old lady with the name Phoebe too

Converse · 20/05/2011 21:05

Lovely name. And Joe is not an unusual name so don't think people would automatically think "Friends". Even if they do, it's not a bad association.

herladyship · 20/05/2011 21:11

i have a phoebe, aged 10..

only know one other phoebe, and she has a big brother called joe & a little sister called mia!! (spooky)

no bias at all here Grin i wanted katherine or elizabeth for a girls name but dh was very insistent so we have have a 'phoebe elizabeth'

have never watched friends, but one or two people have commented 'ooh, phoebe. like on friends' Hmm also, ha ha about a name people can spell. we have had all of the following from ADULTS:

pheobe
phebe
pheebe
feebee
pheboe

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think we are going to go with Phoebe, although probably wont register her for a little while, just to be sure.

Are kate winslet's kids Mia and Joe too? Never knew that.

DS isn't called Joey much, his little friends seem to all call him Joe Joe for some reason. When I've asked people in rl about the friends connection no-one seems to think it's much of an issue.

I'm not surprised that people spell it wrong herladyship some people can be so daft!

Phoebe is perfect. I have a friend with a Phoebe, but she's the only one I've heard of thus far. I think it goes beautifully with your other names and as for spelling, it's not so uncommon that people wouldn't know how to spell it. go for it!

iskra · 23/05/2011 14:59

I didn't get the Friends connection until someone mentioned Joey, so I think that's fine.

I really like Phoebe, but DP had a guinea pig called it as a child so it's ruled out Hmm
