Need a boy name to go with a super difficult Dutch surname, any thoughts on Vincent?

We had Vincent on our list. Like it.

Theo and Alexander are lovely, and very popular.

Dirck - Do you live in UK or the Netherlands?

Bucharest · 18/05/2011 11:34

I think in the UK it's a bit Kray brother, lock stock and whatever, Eastenders Albert Square-ish. (it's the Vinnie bit)

It might be much classier abroad though!

IWishIWasAFrog · 18/05/2011 11:35

UK, but name needs to work in all languages, pfb is called Ben, which is easy on all the tongues. Not Dutch though, South African, but Dutch surname. Just worried about the nn though, Vince? Sounds like it could be a caracter in a gangster movie!

I really like Vincent

FlingonTheValiant · 18/05/2011 11:42

Yes, that was one of the things that stopped me, Vince/Vinnie are both thuggish.

DH is French but we're living in the UK for the next couple of years and that would have driven me crazy. If we have another DS in France I might use it.

I guess he could just be "Vee".

Dirck sounds like a porn star.

I like all the others, especially Theo. Alexander is quite common these days, so it depends if you want something more unusual.

Vin is another NN.

Danish Crown Prince/ss have just named one of their twins Vincent. So to us he'd be Prince Vince - maybe not in Denmark though

Agree with Bucharest about Vincent.

Dirck sounds a strange name, a bit of a combination between Dick and Dirt Confused

I like Theo and Alexander.

CherryDrops · 18/05/2011 14:56

I like Alexander best. Vincent with a dutch sounding last name would make me think van Gogh.

wineandcheese · 18/05/2011 17:52

Love it, esp. as I used to work with a very cheery and clever Vincent.

ShimmeryPixie · 18/05/2011 17:57

I love Vincent. I agree that Vinnie and Vin are bad NNs, but Vince is fine.
