What would YOU like to be called...?

Is there a name that you wish your parents had called you instead of your actual name...? Would you like to be something a bit more unusual, more ordinary...?

DH wishes he was called 'River'.

Think I'd quite like to be 'Nell'.

Ooh something flowy and poetic like Serena, Seraphina or Persephone. Something that conjures up Post-Raphaelite paintings and a bit of magic.

Elizabeth shortened to Beth, because I always liked Beth, but not the local Welsh full form of Bethan.
I guess today I'd have to settle for Bethany.

I have always, since birth, been called my middle name. Single sylable, really boring. My first name is Catherine. I love it. I was named for Cathy from Wuthering Heights. I think its lovely, and has some lovely NN. Ive always wanted to be a Cat!
I called DD Catherine instead. She was always Catey, but is growing up now and needs a new derivative.

When I was a child my own name was not common at all, it is now thanks to the soaps and probably a bit meh. I longed to be either Debbie, Julie, Mandy, Karen, Gillian or Lorraine.

Nowadays I would like to be Suzy. Just Suzy not Suzanne or Susan.

jennypenney · 19/05/2011 12:10

I'd like to be Sam or Alex. My name is Jennifer which I don't love and have never been called that. I was Jenny when I was little and at school and then I got fed up of that and shortened it to Jen at uni which I've been ever since.

NormanTheForeman · 19/05/2011 12:14

Well, I think Norman quite suits me really....

But I asked SoMuchToBits. She is a Heather, which she hates. She would like to be Isabel or Juliet or Miranda.

wheniwishuponastar · 19/05/2011 12:19

the only name id like to be called is Hannah. (its not my name)

BalloonSlayer · 20/05/2011 08:05

jennypenney I love the name Jennifer, though not for me as it wouldn't suit me.

I sometimes find myself thinking about the name, as if I was destined to have a DD called Jennifer. But my DD is called something else, and I don't think we even discussed the name Jennifer. Confused

chrisonabike · 20/05/2011 08:10

I like my name, but I've always wanted a boy's name instead. James, or Johnny or something. Not Derek. Hence why I'm Chris on here Grin

weepootle · 20/05/2011 22:22

I've always hated my name (it's one of the ones on Fimbo's wanted to be list!). As far back as I can remember, I've wanted to be Louisa. I still do, but would be equally happy with Kate.

monkeyslut · 21/05/2011 08:02

My name is bleh...

Much prefer if I were a Coraline instead.

UrsulaBuffay · 21/05/2011 08:18

I would be happy as a Kate or maybe an Anna. I just realised that I could have made an Annie out of my name, but it is far too late for that. I would have been happier as one, but it was hard enough shortening it at all as people think you're trying to 'be something you're not'.

jellybeans · 21/05/2011 12:23

I would like a name such as Jane or Sarah where it can't be shortened to numerous names!!! It is so annoying!
