Looking at a few boys names Ideas at the moment. What do people think of Charles and how common is it - i know the nickname Charlie will be virtually impossible to avoid. Other ideas are Albert nn bertie or Edward.

Love Charles, but hate Charlie. Love Edward. How about Edward Charles ?

girlscout · 16/05/2011 11:30

No ,royal charles has killed it.

sonniebonnie · 16/05/2011 11:30

Charles is lovely, it is my ds's middle name. I don't like Charlie.

izzybiz · 16/05/2011 11:35

My Dh is called Charles, he is known as Chas by everybody.

tammytoby · 16/05/2011 11:39

I like Charles, but I dislike Charlie/Alfie/Bertie and think they will start to sound dated soon.

olddeuteronomy · 16/05/2011 12:11

Like Charles but not massively keen on Charlie although it is ok as long as Charles is on birth certificate. I have a friend who has always been Charles, never Charlie as his mum insisted - proves it can be done!

missmiss · 16/05/2011 12:14

I love Charles. Agree Charlie is too ubiquitous (is that a tautology?). Chaz is quite a nice nickname though, and if you are quite firm that he is a Charles, not a Charlie, you should be able to stave off shortenings until he's at school, by which point he might correct people who try to call him Charlie himself.

MercurySoccer · 16/05/2011 12:26

Edward Charles would be lovely :)

Charlie/Bertie type names will date more.

pilates · 16/05/2011 12:38

I like Edward Charles too.

mopsyflopsy · 16/05/2011 12:41

Agree that Charles is a lovely classic, solid name. We have a Quentin Charles Smile. Charlie/Bertie/Archie type names sound cute but are a likely to sound dated soon as they've been so 'trendy' recently.

mopsyflopsy · 16/05/2011 12:41

Yes, Edward Charles is lovely too.

Hedwig3 · 16/05/2011 12:43

Love the name Charles and Charlie is fine as a nn as long as it doesn't take over.

Albert nn Bertie same as above.

Edward- yuk!

flopsy1974 · 16/05/2011 13:52

Thinking more of edward as a possible middle name as I hate the nick names Ted, Teddy, Ed Eddy.
