I was just answering someone about nicknames and it got me thinking how often Isabel/ Isabelle/ Isabella etc. is called Izzy?????
I really don't like it and am worried people would automatically call her that.
Do you know any that has never been called Izzy?

Bottom line is. If you dont like the nn Izzy don't use Isabelle as it'll be your daughters name not yours and if she wanted to use Izzy she's entitled to. Xxx

My daughter is called Isabelle, she's never called Izzy. Always Belle.

CathFizz · 13/03/2015 10:43

My friend's dd is Isabelle but is always called Whizz Grin

florascotia · 13/03/2015 10:48

It's definitely an old lady name (and not the fashionable kind) but in Scotland, Isabella/Isobel was traditionally often shortened to Isa (Eye-sah). I've also met older Scots named Bella.

Aunt Izzy features prominently in the American children's classic, ' What Katy Did'. But I don't think anyone reads that these days.

I know an Isabella whose mother insisted she was Isa from day 1 because she hated Izzy and Bella. Tbh it feels really artificial. I don't know why they called her Isabella in the first place.

I like Ibby / Ibbie as a nickname for Isabel etc.

I have an Isabelle, I wanted to nn her Belle as she was named after my nan. However she gets Izzy a lot as well, I usually call her Isabelle or Liza (but that is a different story.) When she went to school she got called Izzy and got confused, she asked me 'is that my name?' I said only if you want it to be. She likes it so its sort of stuck. I LOVE IBBIE! I want that to be my name, but might suggest it for my dd.
