Carleyna?

One of my good friends is currently PG with a girl, we were discussing baby names the other day & her top choice is Carleyna...a name I'd never heard of but rather like :)

Her OH is proving harder to convince! he says it sounds too made up and whisper chavvy-sounding. What do others think? I want to get some opinions as she was a bit crushed about his opinion, also she is a technophobe so will not become a MNetter!

I've never heard of it, but that isn't to say it doesn't exist. It isn't one I'd choose for my DD and does sound made up TBH.
Not a mispronounciation of Carolina by any chance?

reikizen · 12/05/2011 12:44

it does sound like a name a teenager would choose. Where I work it would be teamed with Rae, May etc. Not to my taste.

belgo · 12/05/2011 12:46

Very similar to Carlien which is common in Belgium.

If her OH doesn't agree, then she needs to find another name.

Caroline and Carolyn are far prettier.

AngryFeet · 12/05/2011 12:46

I can't even work out how to pronounce it!

Looks like a name that you would always be correcting people on and it is not very pretty really. A bit weird IMO.

FoxyRevenger · 12/05/2011 12:50

Eek. It does look made up, it's not clear from the clumsy spelling how it should be pronounced.

amandine07 · 12/05/2011 12:54

I've been getting into the whole baby name discussion thanks to friends having babies recently, it's amazing the variation out there- it's true, just cos you've not heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I was told it's pronounced "car-leena" though looking at the spelling it could be "car-lane-a" as well. I think it sounds quite pretty but it's the seemingly awkward spelling that would put me off!

The name is fine. The spelling is awkward and a bit chavvy.

amandine07 · 12/05/2011 13:17

Maybe the spelling Carlina would be better? with it still pronounced "Car-leena"

I like the sound of the name, but the spelling does look made up.

How about Carolina?

aStarInStrangeways · 12/05/2011 17:41

Urg, no thanks. Carl and Carly are two of my least favourite names, so this just seems like a step over the edge of madness.

Fimbo · 12/05/2011 17:41

It looks like Car lane a to me. I agree with her dh though. How about Carlotta?

DesolationAngel · 12/05/2011 17:47

I once taught a Karleena.
I prefer Carolyn, always loved that name.

mathanxiety · 12/05/2011 18:48

Made up, and yes to the poster who said it sounds like something a teenager would choose. Carlina is silly too.

Karolina is lovely though.

MercurySoccer · 12/05/2011 20:57

Carleyna sounds odd. Marlena would be nicer.

Dreadful and made up!

Pancakeflipper · 13/05/2011 00:12

Ooh I love this name, I think it's going to be my new fav made-up Chav name. It must be good cos I giggled when I first saw it.

ChuckYouFarlie · 13/05/2011 00:12

Blush sorry but it's not great...

Carlena is a marginal improvement, it's the Y that makes it icky.

ensure · 13/05/2011 12:37

What about Carina, which is a real, though uncommon, name, or Carmela maybe.

sonniebonnie · 13/05/2011 14:19

How about Carlina, pronounced Carleena?
