Ashley - mostly f or m?

Just now its my favourite girls name but concerned because i dislike Ashley Cole!

Would your first reaction on hearing the name be girl or boy?

It's DS's middle name, (after my great grandfather) so boy for me.

I always thought it a modern name until my mum explained the family connection- GGF born @ 1870.

I know more girls than boys. Only thing about it is that everyone seems to spell it differently.

I only know girls named Ashley. Sounds feminine to my ears.

I know one little girl called Ashley. It suits her.
