What do you think? I'm a bit of a romantic and love Tennyson's Maud...

It's a lovely name.

ElsieR · 11/05/2011 12:44

Great. but for a girl, right?

rachel234 · 11/05/2011 12:52

I don't like the look or sound of, I'm afraid.

singersgirl · 11/05/2011 12:57

Much prefer it without the 'e' and like it very much.

MelinaM · 11/05/2011 13:36

I really like itSmile ..I'd go with Maude.

DELHI · 11/05/2011 14:03

Sorry, it's one of my all-time least favorite names - I thinks it's a really ugly sounding name always makes me think of mud

virginiasmonalogue · 11/05/2011 14:31

I'm all for old fashioned names but Maud just sounds line a stout old woman with wrinkly tights.

OnlyWantsOne · 11/05/2011 14:42

I think it's lovely either way :)

smother · 11/05/2011 15:20

I think it's lovely (and refreshing in a world filled with Lily's, Daisy's and Amelia's). It can used as a nn for Matilda I think

ChippingIn · 11/05/2011 15:26

Sorry, but it conjures up images of grey rinses & wrinkly tights,

CandiceMariePratt · 11/05/2011 15:29

DD4 was very nearly Maude, love it

BuntyPenfold · 11/05/2011 15:30

To me it conjures a weedy tenor singing 'Come into the gaaaarden etc', but I know a darling Maud actually.

Prob the worst name ever. It sounds like mort/ morgue ie death

TabithaTwitchet · 11/05/2011 17:22

I really don't like the sound of it. It conjures up images of fat dumpiness for me.
I usually test names by thinking "would I like to be called X?" And I would hate to be called Maude.

TheFantasticFixit · 11/05/2011 17:26

I LOVE Maud, and have done for years. So much so that I named my cat that. And now can't name my baby Maud as a result

WhoWhoWhoWho · 11/05/2011 17:29

the name Maude will ring big emotional bells for a lot of MNers on here - (search Mile for Maude), for me the name will always remind me of the MNer's Maude.

I think it's a nice name but I do like all the 'old lady' type names, some like em some don't. Smile

tummytickler · 11/05/2011 17:35

I like Maude. DD goes to school with a lovely one.
I prefer it with the 'e'.

Maude is the name I hovered about giving dd2 as a middle name - dh wasn't sure and at last minute chose something else. Still love it today, and still wonder about adding it 5 years on! Beautiful name.

birdofthenorth · 12/05/2011 00:40

Love it. No huge spelling preference, but Maude probably

Hedwig3 · 12/05/2011 10:13

Tastic Grin

cumbria81 · 12/05/2011 10:59

it's fucking awful. Sorry.

tammytoby · 12/05/2011 12:23

I really dislike it. It sounds harsh, unfriendly and unfeminine to my ears. It also doesn't sound nice in other languages (other than French).
