DC3 expected in 6wks ish. We are getting nowhere with names but near the top of my girls list is Beth/Elizabeth if I can convince DH

I would like to call her Beth, but I'm struggling with middle names that go. Alternatively, I could use Elizabeth nn Beth as there are tonnes of middle names that go with Elizabeth.

Any suggestions for middle names which go with Beth? Surname begins with a G so middle names beginning with A and O are definitely out.

Think something with several syllables would sound good with a short first name. Something with a vowel would flow well but I see your point about the initials... Best to avoid F too Smile

Beth Caroline
Beth Marianne
Beth Rosalind
Beth Louisa
Beth Madeleine
Beth Juliet
Beth Romilly [probably my favourite]
Beth Serena
Beth Valerie
Beth Felicity (though then you get the BFG)

just some ideas.

Names that stat with vowels seem to flow better, I think:

Beth Anne
Beth Alice
Beth Emily

But I would go for Elizabeth, which has lots of options for nns when she is older, and will sound better with most middle names.

Beth Alexandra ..eek I know it's an A, but this flows beautifully!
Beth Clementine
Beth Delilah
Beth Eleanor
Beth Elodie
Beth Josephine
Beth Juliette
Beth Lavinia
Beth Ophelia
Beth Renee
Beth Seraphina
Beth Sophia
Beth Talullah
Beth Valentina

I think a long mn works bestSmile

I think Elizabeth would be best for the Birth Cert. She may not always like Beth, but Elizabeth is beautiful and has lots of other great nicknames too.

Elizabeth Grace
Elizabeth Juliet
Elizabeth Helena
Elizabeth Rose
Elizabeth Anne
Elizabeth Amelia

Elizabeth, nn Beth, is top of my girl's list too. :)

MercurySoccer · 10/05/2011 22:11

I'd go for Elizabeth for the birth certificate, which then gives you a vast number of options for the middle name as most things will go well.

Beth as first name is obviously short and nicknamey, so doesn't really balance well with a longer, traditional middle name IMHO.

loueytb3 · 10/05/2011 22:14

I like Beth Alexandra but unfortunately DS2's mn is Alexander, so I don't think we can use it. Also it would give her the initials BAG which is not ideal. Beth Sophia is nice and Sophia is on my list already. The other possibility is to use 3 names to avoid the unfortunate initials problem. Then I could use middle names that started in A, O and I. Keep the suggestions coming....

Beth Miranda
Beth Aurora
Beth Carina
Beth Adela
Beth Natasha
Beth Jasmine
Beth Marlena
Beth Paloma
Beth Iona
Beth Louise

Have you considered Bethany? There would be more possible middle names that flow and it sounds more complete than Beth IMO Smile

Sirzy · 11/05/2011 14:35

I would use Elizabeth as it gives her more options when older.

If Ds had been a girl he was going to be elizabeth grace

loueytb3 · 11/05/2011 17:33

Bethany is a bit flowery for me, would rather use Elizabeth (or Elisabeth).

I have a friend who has a four syllable double barrel surname, and her name is Beth, and it suits her and the name perfectly.

I think the shortened name is fine. My friend is in her 30s and has a very well paid professional job, so nickname has not hindered her.

RussAbbotDancer · 13/05/2011 21:53

I know someone called Bethia. Beth-eye-ah. She has spent a lifetime correcting people who say Beth-ee-ah, but perhaps not a problem if you plan to shorten anyway.
