Really like this name, but DH convinced everyone will say Eliza (which he doesn't like). How would you pronounce?

I would think Eliza too ...my dd1's middle name is Elise..would you pronounces it Ell -issa?

Hedwig3 · 09/05/2011 16:53

I would pronounce it Eleesa

MercurySoccer · 09/05/2011 17:19

I'd guess it was pronounced Ell-issa. Would you consider spelling it Elissa if that's the pronunciation you'd like?

MelinaM · 09/05/2011 17:31

I'd pronounce it Ell-issa too. How about Alisa?

TabithaTwitchet · 09/05/2011 17:34

Ell-eeza

Emelene · 09/05/2011 17:54

I would have thought Eliza too, just because of the spelling Elisabeth.

If you love it, you could spell it Elissa. No mistaking that. :) Or you could go with Alice, Elise or Eloise for similar sounding names?

MsChanandlerBong · 09/05/2011 19:33

I too would pronounce it Eliza - but adding in the double s (Elissa) does make it look like Ell-issa if that is your prefered pronunciation.

pointydog · 09/05/2011 19:35

I'd say Eliza. How do you say it?

I prefer Eloise anyway.

pointydog · 09/05/2011 19:35

Or Elise.

PedigreeChump · 09/05/2011 19:37

I would pronounce it El-eeza or El-eesa. Like Elise but with an -a on the end.

I love this name but worried people wouldn't pronounce it the way I wanted, as this thread has shown!

Maybeitsbecause · 09/05/2011 20:47

I know a woman called Alisa (Aleesa).

daisybear · 09/05/2011 21:49

i once thought it was pronounced E-liss-ah which i like but then most people i know pronounce it E-lisa (like lisa but with Eh at the beggining). Personally i wouldn't have thought of pronouncing it Eliza....hth

DandyDan · 10/05/2011 09:01

Elissa is a classic name (it's another name for Dido from the legend of Dido and Aeneas) and would get you the pronunciation you want, I think.

virginiasmonalogue · 10/05/2011 15:15

I like Elisa and can't imagine anyone not pronouncing it el-eesa Confused

MelinaM · 10/05/2011 15:21

Alisha = A-lee-sha Can also be spelt Alesha / Aleysha
Alisa = A-lis-a
Alisia =A-lis-c-a Can also be spelt Alicia

Don't you just wish people would learn the correct spelling for their desired pro-nounciation!
