Two middle names?

OH are debating this....

We are expecting my first and we have agreed that it will have my surname as a middle name - we're not married and but there is a long family tradition of doing this anyway.

We're wondering whether or not to add another middle name - I like this idea but OH thinks its a bit much.

Any opinions?

My children all have a middle name then my surname then their dads surname - noone has ever suggested it is strange (or not to my face!)

DD has two middle names, the second one of which is DP's surname. She can use it as a middle name or hyphenate if she wants when she's older. I've got two middle names. Nothing weird about it at all

Both of my children have 2 middle names. And one of my sisters also has 2.

I have 2 middle names, one of which is my mum's surname. So does my sis.

My DH also has two middle names, one of which is a "family name" that all boys get.

Not strange at all.

My DH and I had this debate 14 years ago when expecting DS1. I always wanted two middle names myself growing up (no idea why, I just did) and was determined that my children would have them. However, DH & his entire family have no middle names at all & he felt that more than one middle name was excessive. The agreement we came to was that any boys we had would have one middle name & any girls would have two. 10 years after the birth of DS2, I am now expecting a DD & am busy preparing a list of suitably fluffy middle names Grin.

It's not excessive at all, have fun choosing!

I think theres nothing wrong with two middle names, and if your child just so happens to hate their first name (lets hope they dont!) then they can always go with their first middle name! I don't think it's two much, it only gets ridiculous when there's about 4 or 5 middle names! good luck!

My DD has two middle names. Her first name, then second, my surname then DHs. She can choose to do what she wants with the last two. she can double barrel them if she chooses (I hope she doesn't) or just carry on.
She should think herself lucky, she was born in Oman where up to 15 names are common. The woman registrar at the hospital kept asking for more.
