Imogen or Ingrid?

Ingrid is a lot more grown up than Imogen, but Imogen is so unusual (not in an uncommon sense, but in the sense that I find it fascinatingly weird).

Is Imogen cutesy or popular, and do you prefer it to Ingrid?

Imogen.

The "grid" in Ingrid sounds odd to me.

bananamom · 26/04/2011 23:53

Imogen. Ingrid sounds harsh.

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 27/04/2011 14:16

aaargh, i had this exact same dilemma!! DP solved it by saying neither and we went with isla instead. i'd probably choose imogen over ingrid, just for it having a softer sound, but i feel your pain!

CrystalDroplets · 27/04/2011 14:31

Imogen is soooooo much nicer that Ingrid. Ingrid wouldn't suit a little baby girl

BellBookandCandle · 27/04/2011 14:45

Ingrid, is lovely and less frequently used than Imogen. I would imagine that an "Ingrid" had scandanavian

pinkhebe · 27/04/2011 14:46

thousands of Imogens at the moment, I love Ingrid

BellBookandCandle · 27/04/2011 15:00

that should read "I would imagine that an "Ingrid" had scandanavian heritage" not sure where that went to first time

MackerelOfFact · 27/04/2011 15:07

Imogen much nicer IMO. Ingrid is very harsh and for some reason reminds me of 1) ingrown hair and 2) cattle grids.

BarbieLovesKen · 27/04/2011 15:09

Imogen is beautiful and much, much nicer IMO. Ingrid is very harsh and in the same "name family" as Helga to me..

pilates · 27/04/2011 15:34

Imogen - beautiful
Ingrid - ugly

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:36

Imogen is pretty, Ingrid is the DD of Norman Stanley Fletcher in Porridge. It is also the name of one of my arch enemy mums in Switzerland. HTH.

ChateauRouge · 27/04/2011 15:40

Imogen is wishy washy
Ingrid is beautiful and strong.

whizzyrocket · 27/04/2011 15:45

Imogen is lovely. Ingrid is a lovely name for a pooch, who can wear it without fear of bullies!

droopypoppies · 27/04/2011 15:49

Another for Imogen here, wanted to call my DD Imogen, but DD's father said it reminded him of midget gem sweets Grin

Ingrid reminds me of dirty drains, sorry Blush

Ingrid does sound quite harsh but I think that potentially it is a grower. It does sound quite classic and strong and also not too popular. Imogen is also quite harsh sounding IMO but less so than Ingrid. Imo is quite a cute nn for Imogen whereas I can't think of a nice nn for Ingrid. Its a difficult one they are both nice names but I think Ingrid is a bit riskier in terms of how it would be recieved.

ilovedjasondonovan · 27/04/2011 15:53

Ingrid - I have a friend Ingrid and she is in no way harsh. lovely name.
her middle name is Odette, sister Astrid, brother Fingle. And no, they arn't scandinavian.

mathanxiety · 27/04/2011 15:57

Ingrid.
Imogen always sounds like some sort of vacuum cleaner to me, or a spray cleaner.

missmiss · 27/04/2011 15:58

Imogen is wet and mimsy.

Ingrid is strong and beautiful.

AnnetteTwitcher · 27/04/2011 17:37

Adore ingrid- this was on our short list but it's been boys all the way.

It's strong, elegant and would suit an adult as well as a spirited little girl. V v good choice!
