Loretta?

My DD2 is Charlotte but is known as Lottie. We get such positive comments about the name Lottie Smile.

I know someone whose name is Lotte (with an umlaut thingy on the 'e'). It's not short for anything. The 'e' ending somehow seems less girly and nicknamey than the 'ie' ending IMO so that could work if you're worried about her having a 'proper' name.

WanderingSheep · 25/04/2011 22:15

Even though you don't like Charlotte, could you not just have it on the birth certificate and just call her Lottie? Then she has the option of using Charlotte for jobs etc but will never be called Charlotte, iyswim.

I love Charlotte (obviously) but if you are going to call her Lottie anyway does it matter what name is on the BC?

Janoschi · 25/04/2011 22:16

In Germany they tend to use Lotta (or more accurately Lotte) as a way of lengthening names... ie:

Lieselotte/a (German nn tends to be Lilo but Lottie also happens)
Hannelotte/a
Adelotte/a

Or they put it on the front... ie Lotte-Luisa

Not sure this helps much! What about simply using Lotta or Lotte on the BC - short and sweet?

I know a Lottie and she is lovely. Shes a grown woman and thats her name, on birth cert etc. I love it x

My friend has a Violet which has been shortened to Lottie by a family member

Achneinmeinbein · 26/04/2011 20:30

Elliot?

Jacksterbear · 26/04/2011 21:00

Another vote for the German - Lotte (pronounced Lotta).

(Although does make me think of "a whole lotta lovin'..." [chmm])

Kaekae · 26/04/2011 21:28

I was going to suggest Violet too. I love Lottie, but like you not so keen on Charlotte.....love Violet though, would be on my SL.
