Good, strong boys names that are not in the top 100, but not too unusual?

Hello,

DH and I can't agree at all on any boys names.

He likes 'normal' names like James, Henry, David etc. whereas I'd prefer not to already know at least three people with the name that we give our DC.

Saying that, I find it really hard to think of ANY boys names that I love (like I do girls names).

Any ideas?

From those, I like Cassius and Francis, but DH has already vetoed both.

Oh, also there's a good chance our child will have a lisp, so we need to keep the s's to a minimum.

Your Dh and my DH are the same!
I put up a list in the hallway of names we both like on his side are
James
Thomas
Charlie(our surname is Charles)
Oliver

On mine
Hugo
Felix
Wilf
Raphael

Ilove your choice of names but with less than 3 weeks to go I feel it's a battle I won't win. I've tried compromise too by saying he can choose middle name.
He also like Freddie, we have an Edward so he wants them to be Fredward.
Hope my names are better for you!

Andreas
Walter
Graham
Douglas
Quentin
Alastair
Colm
Gregory
Liam
Jeffrey
Neil
Theodore
Miles

All very random here but I've no idea what floats your boat!

Prinpo · 25/04/2011 18:22

OP, I think you're looking for the holy grail...

NormanTheForeman · 25/04/2011 18:22

Jonathan. Our ds's name, clasic, but not common these days, and no lisp complications.

NormanTheForeman · 25/04/2011 18:23

Or

Jeremy
Nathaniel
David
Michael
Robert

None of these are ridiculously common these days.

MoreWinePlease67 · 25/04/2011 18:25

Our boys are Douglas and Cameron. I think they are both strong names, although it is nigh on impossible to get personalised things with Douglas on which can be a right pita!

MoreWinePlease67 · 25/04/2011 18:26

Oh just seen the bit about the lisp, Douglas can of course be shortened to Doug or Dougie to cut out the possible S problem.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 25/04/2011 18:41

David, Michael, Robert, good suggestions I think - not 'unusual' enough to be very popular these days, iyswim :)

In the same vein:
Richard
Martin
Mark
Alan
Anthony
Stephen
Paul
Andrew ..... all pretty classic

jellybeans · 25/04/2011 19:27

Joel
Niall
Evan
Euan
Sean
Cormac
Zac
Micah
Caleb

Frederick
Ronald
Timothy
Matthew
Harold (nn Hal)
Lawrence
Howard
Vincent
Reginald
Godfrey
Gerald

Again, a bit random! It'd be good to know your style OP - save suggesting some embarrassingly off-target ones!

schroedingersdodo · 25/04/2011 19:51

Aldous
Felix
Vincent
George
Otto

Were in our shortlist. In the end we decided to call DS Jonas

GRW · 25/04/2011 19:51

If I had a boy he would have been John- classic but not too popular at the moment.

MissFenella · 25/04/2011 19:54

Arthur
Alfred
Henry
Ralph
Peter
Robert
Edward

lateSeptember1964 · 25/04/2011 19:57

Joel
Dominic
Paul
James
Matthew
Benedict
Mark/Marcus
Not sure if any of these are in the top 100

NorkyButNice · 25/04/2011 20:02

Are lisps hereditary? I never knew that - you learn something new every day on MN.

DS2 is Nathaniel. Everyone says "how unusual" when they meet him, but (I think) in a good way!

evamummy · 25/04/2011 20:33

Some lovely strong names outside the top 100 without any 's's:

Quentin
Dominic
Rafael
Gregory

Meglet · 25/04/2011 20:34

Bruno. DD would have been called it if she'd been a boy.

MadameCastafiore · 25/04/2011 20:36

Otto - if I had anojther child would use this - think it is incredibly cool. Although MIL said - Oooohhhh very German - she was funnily happy for us to call DS Maximilian though!

AnnieBesant · 25/04/2011 20:38

Dominic
Patrick
Alec

52Girls · 25/04/2011 20:39

Jonathan.
