Good, strong boys names that are not in the top 100, but not too unusual?

Hello,

DH and I can't agree at all on any boys names.

He likes 'normal' names like James, Henry, David etc. whereas I'd prefer not to already know at least three people with the name that we give our DC.

Saying that, I find it really hard to think of ANY boys names that I love (like I do girls names).

Any ideas?

Love Bruno, Quentin and Gregory.

The thing about Otto is that it is a very old fashioned German name, all German Ottos are at least age 50 and it does indeed have a bad even comical reputation (worse than Nigel or Norman actually). On the other hand, Maximilian has been in the top 10 German names for a number of years.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

My favorite is Milo, although I'm pretty sure DH will say no.
I also like Toby, but would that have to be Tobias on the birth certificate? Also Hector and Bruno.

I don't think any of these will be DH's cup of tea. Is it really petty to be ever so slightly leaning towards hoping this baby is a girl as she'll be easier to name? (I do really just want a healthy baby of any sex).

Christopher- strong boys name but you won't find 3 in the same class.

seeker · 25/04/2011 23:14

Patrick. Best boy's name ever - and bizarrely unusual in England!

I love Patrick too, but don't know any under 35.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 26/04/2011 10:15

I can't belive that nobody has mentioned my favourites
Adrian or Duncan, you could also consider Gareth or Gavin if you must, but please, for the sake of my sanity consider Duncan.

mopsyflopsy · 26/04/2011 10:23

Choco, the problem with Milo is that is actually a chocolate drink: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_(drink)

moid · 26/04/2011 10:29

Donald (Don)
Cameron
Alexander and foreign derivatives (Alessandro) are very popular in SW London (so really depends where you live)
Gary
Leonard (Len)

NorkilyChallenged · 26/04/2011 10:30

I love Patrick but have recently met 3 under 5. It's still my favourite boy's name I think and I like Paddy too.

I also like Duncan, Douglas, Bruno, Hector, Euan from your list. I agree though, girls' names are much easier somehow.

BigusBumus · 26/04/2011 10:33

My boy is Miles with the middle name John. Both fab names.

I also love Toby, and no it doesn't have to be Tobias.

Dominic and Laurence and great names too. (Dom and Laury).

mopsyflopsy · 26/04/2011 11:10

Laurence is a girls name to me, the female version of Laurent.

I like Dominic.

Janoschi · 26/04/2011 11:22

Lawrence though? As in Lawrence Durrell?

nometime · 26/04/2011 11:27

Theo
George
Samuel
Miles
Matthew
Jacob
Tim (not sure about Timothy though)

NorkilyChallenged · 26/04/2011 11:30

Actually thinking about it, Patrick is probably in the top 100

Missgiraffe1 · 26/04/2011 12:38

Chocolocolate I am the same, short-list of girls names still has around 12 names on it, but struggling with boys (especially as my DH wants his Mum's maiden name as the middle name, and it really limits what we can have as first name!)

My wee nephew is Patrick, he's adorable and I love his name.

I like:
Dominic
Lawrie
Elliot
Christopher
Andrew
Jamie

Good luck!
