Good, strong boys names that are not in the top 100, but not too unusual?

Hello,

DH and I can't agree at all on any boys names.

He likes 'normal' names like James, Henry, David etc. whereas I'd prefer not to already know at least three people with the name that we give our DC.

Saying that, I find it really hard to think of ANY boys names that I love (like I do girls names).

Any ideas?

You can have Jerome if you like. Jem for short. Thought Jerome Gregory or Jerome Benedict.
Doesn't look like I'm going to use it :(

Interesting. is Patrick getting popular?

I had that effect on Grace too. Incredibly unusual that was - 15 years ago!

Missgiraffe1 · 26/04/2011 14:44

I don't know any other baby Patricks, he's the only one I know under 40!

dexifehatz · 26/04/2011 15:42

We have Dexter Miles.

My Patrick is 10 - and we've never met another in England. But, as I said, considering the effect I seem to have had on the name Grace, I expect Patrick to be in the top 5 very shortly!

my brother is a bruno, he hates it, always has.

when he was born, a neighbour of my mum peered into the pram and said "what are you calling him?", mum replied "bruno", she said "no, i mean, what's his NAME?" and was dumbstruck when it was repeated to her Smile

It's already been mentioned a couple of times, but because you said a 'strong' name, I thought I'd tell you that when our DS1 was born (Iwan as we are in Wales, but pronounced like Ewan/Euan), an old man peered into the pram and asked his name. I told him and he stood up, put his hand on my arm and said "That's a fine, strong name for a man..." and then walked off. I think it was a compliment!

PollyParanoia · 26/04/2011 19:48

I can't believe anyone's suggested Theo as unusual. Round here it's up there with Lily, Felix and Oscar as names that are going to put kids firmly into their years of their birth.

PollyParanoia · 26/04/2011 19:49

And gosh, names outside the top 100 esp with boys are going to be well wacky.

WellIShouldNever · 26/04/2011 19:57

Nathaniel.

Love Patrick and Dominic, already mentioned.

mopsyflopsy · 26/04/2011 22:01

You should have look at the ONS list of ALL the boys name given last year, there are loads of lovely classic names outside of the top 100 or even top 250.

Chocolocolate · 26/04/2011 22:23

Do you know the link to get to that mopsy?

Can you give a link to the full list please?

wonderwooman · 26/04/2011 22:33

Guy
Magnus

Vicky2011 · 26/04/2011 22:40

Could you compromise on a strong but non-quirky name that's not really popular at the moment? It never fails to amaze me how few of the names that I used to think of as the real classics seem to be used now. I mean like:

David
Michael
Richard
Robert
Andrew
Paul
Christopher
Philip
Jonathan
Anthony
